SuperYachtWorld magazine has asked some of the leading designers to come up with their list of the five most beautiful superyachts of all time.

If you haven't seen the photos of these incredible giants in the current issue of SYW magazine, follow the link below to see our online gallery.

And let us know here whether you agree with the designers!

50 Most Beautiful Superyachts

Lady Moura and Enigma are parked in the same marina as my boat in Palma and both are mingers as far as I'm concerned. Lady Moura looks like a cross between a car ferry and one of the Fat Greek's sleazycruise ships (although it's recent blue hull paint job tarts it up a bit) and Enigma is just plain butt ugly with it's bulbous windows and seems to be a sort of reverse design exercise in how to fit the smallest possible superstructure on the longest possible hull

Surprising list. Several on there clearly deserve a place in the top 50 superyachts. Maltese Falcon, A, Christina O, Limitless to mention but a few.

But no Mirabella 5, yet you included Felicita West? How could you? FW is not particulary pretty, is not a good sailer, and is essentially a collection of parts from a catalogue. Mirabella V has a carbon hull, the largest mast ever made, the largest sail ever made, all custom sail handling etc, and represents the culmination of a long list of engineering challenges, with almost nothing bought from a catalogue. And it can outpace Maltese Falcon in a straight line, whereas FW would be lagging 4 knots behind...

Lady Moura and Kingdom 5 KR just shouldn't be in any beauty list. K5KR has her attributes but beauty isn't among them, especially in her colours. Lady Moura just looks like a commercial cruise ship, urgh

Why Pelorus but not the new improved sistership Dilbar or the brand new launch Darius, from the same hull/series? And even moreso why Deja Too when it is "just" a series Amels? There have been perhaps 10 built in that Tigre D'Or series, so it's as close as you get to a production boat in s/yachts, so why pick DT specifically?

The most surprising choice was The One for #1. Jeeze. Quite a boat but hardly as special or beautiful as many others on the list. And very not beautiful when her uber smokey knackered old engines start up

Nah, the top handful should have been Maltese Falcon, Endeavour, Mirabella V, Ghost, Limitless, Carinthia 7, Wallypower 118, Ice, Christina O, A.

There's a mistake in the album. You have 2 number 21s, both called Coral Island. The one on the right IS Coral Island but the one on the left (with distinctive turquoise boot top) is Princess Mariana. Red Dragon is in twice, and (pedantically) Leander is called Leander G

Oooh, i wouldn't call Enigma butt ugly. Quite a milestone in engineering terms, and those windows are huge compound curved glass things that were a massive job to make. Currently owned by (son of) the Barclay brothers, btw

Agree re Lady Moura

If it is based on aesthetics alone then there is only one winner in my book ....Endeavour !

No. Its Atlantic. Or may be Meteor.

There are a few others which should be in the list in my view such as Eleanora, Ilex and so on.

Do you mean Ilex? Or Adix? Ilex is an interesting classic but hardly a superyacht, and Adix (a modernised classic) seems more in keeping with your choice of Meteor, etc.

Meteor is a lovely boat. My berth is right opposite, bow to bow, her sistership Borkumriff :-)

Sorry chum, my apologies , I didn't really read the OP I though we just had a choice of what was in the gallery, personally, I think if that is the best top fifty there are some Superyacht designers around that don't deserve the title.

I did mean Ilex - might not be so super big as the others but a super yacht in my book.

You are right Adix belongs in the list too.

I would. Every time I exit my marina, I have to pass between Enigma and Lady Moura and I would say that Enigma looks like a boat that the Daleks designed. Still, I expect the owner loves it

I too was a little surprised when I saw the proofs on this but as they say everyone's taste is different.

For me Leander is G the ultimate classic (outside only, have you seen the interior!)

Now here's a thing he also has two beautiful narrow boats moored outside his house as well....The ultimate Narrow Boat owner!

Yup, Leander G's interior is not good. Much powder blue velour and chintz. The boat is very nice, but surely not in any top 50. Many more recent builds beat it hands down for build quality, looks and wonderful engineering (Ice's propulsion sustem, for example). Indeed probably all De Vries, Van Lent and Lurssen boats are significantly better built than Leander G

Yup, Lulworth definitely worth a mention. Pic of her below in Antibes, summer 2007 right after her big refit.

Thing is, where do you stop with this list? Maria Cattiva should be on there too? :-)

Would Haida G be the yacht featured in the Abba musical Mamma Mia (if anyone has seen it)?

[/ QUOTE ]

No. That was Tai Mai Shan which has been recently sold.

I was considering buying her at one time but I was more than a little concerned about the maintenance required and the complications of importing the yacht into the EU (RCD etc).

In my top 50 and agree on your other comments but to me I think she is my all time classic but then again I also like Rising Sun so maybe I am just a bit odd...

Sorry, I should have been more accurate. I meant the big one shown during the 'Rich mans world' -song.

Maintenance could be a lot of work on both, though...
