<span style="color:blue">There has been a deal of fuss about taxation being applied to UK folk living on their boats in Spain for periods in excess of 6 months.
Are there any similar implications to UK subjects living on board, especially in the Azores?

I don't know about the Azores but in mainland Portugal, after 180 days in a year you are judged to be resident and liable for Portuguese tax on your worldwide wealth. I suspect that the Azores is the same. However, they are fairly easygoing at catching you although things are tightening up these days. Also after 180 days your boat is liable for a "vehicle tax". A 37 foot sail boat like mine costs Euros 148 this year. To avoid being caught keep moving and do not become visible!
Good luck.
