Are there any smallish modern (<15year) Deck Saloon cruisers

Probably smallest is Hunter 27 Pilot, although there are many more motor orientated smaller boats such as the IP 23, Colvics, Cox Mariner etc. Nothing that could be remotely trailerable, though. Just not possible to get deckhouse, inboard etc in a package small enough and light enough to tow.

Davidpbo,

I happen to run an owners association for a lift keel 22' sailing boat; I get regular questions from people expecting they can sail such a boat, trailing it to to the coast then home again every weekend...

My answer is that the boat is trailable, but only for repositioning somewhere distant for a summer holiday.

If towing the thing around one needs to find a good slipway - surprisingly rare in the UK - then use a machine gun to get to the slip as the world and his wife will have had the same idea, launch the boat without also launching the car ( which will need to be Range Rover size to be legal ), find a spot to leave the boat safe, find a spot to leave the car and trailer safe, return to the boat and get the mast up, set up the standing & running rigging, go for a sail on what's left of the tide, then repeat the process in reverse !

Also keeping a boat on a trailer usually means she's a lift keeler so no access to carry out maintainance on the retracted keel.

Get a mooring, if necessary join a club to get one, clubs are usually a source of good info and contacts for spares and help, not all blazers and flag etiquette !

Not <15 years old, but a Snapdragon 24/747 ticks the 'see out when seated' box, as, I believe, do the larger and, presumably, the smaller ones.

I wouldn't want to sail my 24 from a trailer for all the reasons Seajet gives, though. Plus, at close to 3 tonnes in cruising (tanked up & cluttered up) fettle, I'm not sure a Range Rover would be man enough to tow it, and I'd hate to put the mast up without a crane.

Hunter Pilot is quite a nice boat, but not many of the around and they do seem to get quite shabby quite quickly - we looked at several a few years ago.

We have a Hunter Pilot 27 based in Plymouth and I'm seriously considering going over to the dark side as the years advance; thinking about selling if you're in the market. Let me know if you would like more info.
The Pilot is a brilliant little cruiser and we've taken ours over to France with no problem; being able to sit in the deck saloon watching the world go by is a definite plus.

David, there was a boat down at Fellfoot that looked like it could be the sort of thing you want.
I think it was a Sportina or similar make, Polish lake boat. It certainly looked to be set up for trail sailing, mast lifting gear etc.
Looked as ugly as sin though, very high freeboard and blocky. Not as nice looking as Juniper.

Not the right age I know but Jeanneau used to do some smaller Espaces when they built the ones like my parents boat, went down to 990, 800 and 600, I presume they are loosly related to meters.

The Polish boat is the Delphia TS240. There is one at Fambridge on the Crouch.
As good a job as you could possibly do, given the design brief.

Perhaps you don't read other's posts. David has a 23' yacht on Windermere that he trails home each winter. He has posted about this many times.

+1 for a cockpit tent. We don't spend much time below in the saloon, and we're only in the cabins to sleep. Cockpit tents give you the view, and flexibility to convert back to just a spray hood when sailing.

The LM range had a 27' deck house cruiser. Here's one that's a bit older than you're after:http://yachts.apolloduck.co.uk/boats.phtml?id=677&mi=1068

Not trailerable by any means but a nice, traditional long keel motorsailer valued also for it's roomy cockpit. Built here in Denmark in a family of boats ranging from 16' to 35'

If interested the selection here may be wider and prices appear lower (at least lower than the linked to ad above). Two in our marina asking £15k and £17k (w/ 2006 Lombardini 30hp diesel).
