My normal Insurance Company wont Insure my new boat unless I meet their requirements which they did not have on my previous boat. (I wont mention their name but if you are under 50 they wont insure you.)
I have no claims for 30+years. They now require a Valuation and Survey.
My last boat, built in 1986, was a 21 ft Guy Couach which was the only one in the UK which they had never heard of and they insured it without asking for a valuation and survey.
My new boat is a 15ft Bayliner which must be perhaps the most well known make of Speedboat, the engine is a 25hp Suzuki. Valuation around £3500. I have RYA Powerboat 2, VHF Licence, etc
But why should I go to the expense of a Valuation & Survey, I have been told that it can cost £10 per foot.
I am up near Windermere in case any one suggests an inexpensive Surveyor in Cornwall.

Have they said why? Is it the age or the make of the boat? We looked at "the over 50s insurer" last renewal, but found GJW more conmprehensive and about the same price. They did not ask for valuation or survey at my expense either! Tell them if they want a survey - they organise and pay for it including the lifts or just your change insurer.

Or meant to say... did you have your new boat surveyed when you bought it? If so perhaps they would accept that?

The "over 50 mob" are only a broker anyway, so try GJW as suggested or Mardon Marine who are specialists in inland boats...
