Does anyone have any tips regarding mooring at Ardminish Bay on Gigha next week? Hoping to get a mooring buoy, but suspect there will be plenty of boats still around after West Highland Week so need a few alternatives. Any advise appreciated.

Arrived there at 9pm on a Wed night last month and all visitors moorings taken. There are other places in the bay where anchoring is possible. The bay is pretty well protected in most wind directions unless it has east in it.

If Ardminish bay is full there is another bay further north which faces approx NE, Druimyean bay I think. Should not be too long a walk to the pub from there. Having said that it would take a lot of boats to fill up Ardminish bay, you just need to keep clear of the ferry approach and the isolated rock ENE of the dinghy jetty (covered at HW). Worth a walk to the gardens while you are there.

If the wind is in the east dont even think about Ardminish. If the moorings are full there is generally still plenty of space to anchor....remember there is very little tidal range on Gigha. However I always prefer to anchor in the bay at the NE of the island or round on the NW side in Queens bay, well if its good enough for the Royal yacht Brittania its good enough for me!!! but then again I hate being around crowds of other boats!!! If you around Troon next week look me up on berth F14.

We were there a couple of weeks ago and plenty of movement in the morning so you may find a free buoy when you get there. Lots of space to anchor tho in the south of the bay and holding and shelter both good unless blowing stink from east. We have anchored there a few times and it's good. They serve an interesting range of bottled beer at the bar/restaurant at the end of the jetty and people say the food is very good.

It depends on the tide times for the Mull of Kintyre as the moorings can clear out at three in the morning when peeps are heading back to the Clyde and fill up again with peeps going hell for leather to get in first after coming the other way.
