ARC + starts today.

No doubt rhere are a lot of excited crew in Las Palmas right now. Mebbe some nervousness too.

86 yachts this year.first leg to Mindelo, Azores then on to Grenada.

Good luck all!
I helped deliver participant Morning Bird - a Sweden 390 - to Gran Canaria.

Good luck to them and all others!

Only 86 yachts - that is not a lot really, when compared to previous years in the early days.
I sailed in the first one in 1986, when it came to Barbados from Gran Canaria, and there were 200 yachts in that one - ranging from a wee Hurley 22 (called Raggles - her crew comprised a couple and their dog, and she was well loaded down - but she arrived safely on the other side) - up to a couple of big Swans and a few big one offs around 65' - 70'.

The 86 yachts is not the ARC, but the extra overflow ARC Plus via Cape Verdes.
Main ARC to St Lucia starts in a couple of weeks.
And is there now a third start ARC Jan or was that a one off?

Can I admit that as I sit here, looking out at the rain, the thermometer showing 6°c outside and my work to-do list being unending about of stress, reports and deadlines; the thought of sailing in the warmth disconnected from the real world for a few months sounds jolly appealing indeed.

Ho hum.
