ARC Altantic crossing with baby- feasible or stupid?

If you'd told me 15 months ago I'd consider a picture of a baby worth looking at I wouldn't have believed it. :-) My daughter brought on a big change. :)

Just wait til you get grandkids. If anything its even worse because you dont get the 2am feeds, the backsides to clean etc. You just get the good bits . I find myself showing piccies of my 3 grandsons to anybody I can find on the slightest pretext. Even replaced the boat as the screensaver!

Havent read all the posts but those that I have read have overwhelmingly focussed on you and the baby. Obviously very important but dont forget the problems that will come with other crew. Its one thing to have your own off watch sleep disturbed by a baby crying ( and the poster who suggested that only meant the baby needed something and all you had to to was to give it that something to stop it crying is simply inexperienced. They dont work like that all the time) but its another for other members of the crew to have their precious sleep disturbed.

It will impact on the effectiveness of the management of the boat and it might well cause bad inter personal friction. You might cope with your kid crying - how well do you cope with other people's kids crying? How will you react to a fellow crew member saying " for gods sake cant you shut him up - I'm trying to get to sleep". Or " isnt it about time you helped sail the boat rather than messing about with the baby?"

All I can say to that is you haven't met our daughter. :) In the first year of her life IIRC there have been three times she has truly been inconsolable and this was due to teething. Yes she has cried at other times, but she doens't do it for fun.

feasible or stupid?

Feasible and NOT stupid. BUT would it be enjoyable for you or the rest of the crew?

If you have to do it then you can do it. It can be done safely - many have done it before you. BUT again I doubt the rest of the crew would enjoy it. Maybe if just you and your husband.

As it is not your boat it is not your decision anyway. It is the skippers.
