Hi all,

I'm hoping someone may be familiar with Aquasignal series 50 nav lights.

We have them on our boat and have noticed that they are pretty "floppy" on their mounting brackets.....they look to simply hook over a tab, and then there is a small lever on the back of the light....however, moving it side to side doesn't seem to do anything. I can't find much online, other than confirmation that it looks like we have the correct mounting bracket for the lights.

Anyone know the trick, or is this just how they are?

Aquasignal 40 may be similar?
The other end of the lever is L or hook shaped and engages with a dimple on the underside of the bracket so the light is fixed and can't fall, or be pulled, off. Depending on the exact geometry they can be reasonably snug or very sloppy - they are generally a bit loose and seem to come to no harm that way.

If you wanted, it might be possible to squish the light's female bits in a bit,, on the bench. It would need care and it could be busted at the spot welds it you overdid it. Safer would be to experiment with pieces of plastic shim (cut from washing up liquid bottle, sort of thing) behind the bracket.
I think most people just put up with it.

I also have one of those on the stern - last year found it hanging on it's wires. On inspection the bracket on the transom was on backwards so the hooked lever had nothing to grab and hold! Been like that since I got the boat years ago. Another thing to sort out in the winter.

I had one that wasn't very tight on its mounting, it fell off I think because it hit the very large mooring buoy on our then mooring.

A cable tie threaded through the mounting helped.
