Aquasignal Series 40 disassembly

I need to take apart an Aquasignal Series 40 light, of the sort shown here:

I cannot manage to open it by turning the unit as indicated by the "On-Off" arrows. It appears to be jammed. Any suggestions as to how one could go about doing this? It is plastic, so brute force is not on... probably

The ring can be a pig to turn if it has not been shifted for over a year. Also the light into the holder is tight as well. The second ring up opens the unit up to get at the bulbs, again tight and best done when on deck !

Maybe try to use a rubber oil filter remover to turn the collar, rather than any localised pressure.

btw does anyone have a spare split ring for one?

Done it. it required a combination of:

1) WD40 + silicon spray + other penetrating lubricants (I have no idea which one actually worked)

2) plunging the whole thing in very hot water (just out of a kettle)

3) wriggling by hand (no instruments used - I was afraid of breaking the plastic) until the ring started to move, mm by mm....

so: patience, hard work, and sweat. Is this a parable for life?
