Hi All
Does anyone know where I can get a replacement bulb for an aqua signal masthead light? Its actually the decklight bulb that needs replacing(pictured). I have looked around online at places like Maplin and such but have had no joy as yet.

I think you may have to get them from a chandler as spares for the Aquasignal light. All I can ever find elsewhere is the bipin type.

You managed to get an extra HTTP:// in your second attempt to post the picture.
Just click on the words "IMG code" below the thumbnail in P'bucket to auto copy the url complete with img tags to your clipboard, then simply paste that into your post without trying to use the instant mark up

BTW dismantle the holder and give all the bits a good clean. There's a bit in there that tends to make poor contact (its the spring IIRC) and give it all a light coating of silicone grease.

In fact have you tested the bulb? Last time we bought one it was just a poor contact.

I've had 3 boats with this type of deck-light and rate them a complete waste of time and money. The bulb is completely exposed. Corrosion gets them in no time flat. Spend your fiver more wisely on a couple of pints of beer instead.

Thanks for the help folks.
I have tested the bulb and it would appear that the bulb has in fact corroded. I have also brought the whole unit home with me and spent time with needle files and emery paper making the contacts and such nice and shiny. I do hear what your saying though Earlybird, there is nothing stopping the weather getting at the exposed underside of the light. As im looking to upgrade the tricolour at the masthead to LED this year, im going to have to make do with what ive got...

Although not exactly the same, I had an issue with our Landrover where the RH rear indicator kept crapping out every few weeks because of water ingress and corrosion. I smeared dielectric grease on the bulb about a year ago, and the problem stopped

When my son worked for Sunsail he used to solder all tricolour bulbs into their holders to avoid exactly this problem. The sockets are poorly/cheaply made, plenty of opportunity for galvanic corrosion and also for generally bad contacts.

My tricolour has always been completely unreliable, I have been up there several times to abrade and clean it up, left it working and on the following day it did not light. We have done several long overnight passages in the past few years and on none of them did the tricolour work correctly. So we have now bitten the bullet and ordered a Lopolight, while the Boat Show discounts are operating.

[/ QUOTE ] Well I know the Aquasignal steaming/deck light, that is the main subject of the thread, pretty well from a friends boat but I have an Aquasignal tricolour on my own boat. There's no problem with that. It looks just about as good inside as it did when it was fitted best part of 30 years ago. I do usually give the bulb contacts a quick clean and a fresh smear of Vaseline each year, but I don't claim to have done it every year without fail.
Trouble with it is that the lens has crazed so that needs replacing, if I can get one. If I can't then I'll also be looking at an LED version probably.

I'm not sure I could bring myself to buy something called a Lopo light though. Someone must have been pretty loopy to have thought up that name! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Yes, they could have picked something a little more marketing friendly. It's a pity that so many foreign companies whose first language is not English choose an English name unwisely. The product does seem to be excellent though, and at least we can save up to 16% with boat show discounts.

Not just Johnny Foreigner, try googling "Rolls Royce Silver Mist"
