Aqua-Marine 5600

I have recently purchased a boat fitted with an Aqua-Marine 5600 VHF. It is not possible to display channel 16 on the set either by the main channel selector or by the channel 16 button. Neither does it seem to transmit on 16 although the transmit light indicates it is. It will transmit on other channels, 80 for instance.

Anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

PS Anyone have an operating manual for the same set?

My set on a previous boat was similar, even when 16 was selected or the Ch 16 button was pushed, the display was blank.
This was a poor design feature at the time it was marketed and was commented on in a test report many years ago - several makes were marketed as 'XXXXX5600' with only a badge change.
If it doesn't transmit on 16 it looks like its had it - a marine electronic service co. should be able to do a quick check and see if it is worth repairing. If US, and you don't wanr to fork out for a new DSC set, there are lots of standard VHF's on the S/H market for sale - try www.ebay.co.uk or your local Adtrader paper or see if your local dealer has one that has been taken in part exchange.

Thank you for your responses. Since posting the original query, I discovered the excellent Bob at One Stop on the Medway Trading Estate. He checked the set, confirmed it is in fact working OK, (maybe nobody heard me when I transmitted on 16!) and confirmed that the 16 channel does not light up when in use.

I would still welcome a manual if anyone can help though.
