The previous owner/builder of my boat installed an Aqua-Drive system somatime in the early 80's. It now looks like this:

The rusted "ball of hurt" at the end of the thrust bearing assembly is the coupler with three cap screws on each side. The CV shaft was removed prior to the photo. Needless to say I had to cut the unit out with an angle grinder in the confined 8" space about three feet below my floor boards in order to pull my propshaft. The local distributor has quoted me - for the thrust bearing assembly with coupler, no CV shaft, hold on to your hat - $1175.00 before tax!

Am I being scammed? It's a pillow block with a cast flange and a cinch coupler! There is no magic here!

Does anyone else have experience with Aqua-Drive?

Hi
I have just had a quote for a new Aqua-drive here in the U.K for about £550.00 all in for the larger up to 100hp model.
This included the drive uj though.
They are expensive and i supose there would be inport taxes etc.
Cheers
Joe

I fitted a new Aquadrive when I refitted the engine after a rebuild last winter. It was a bit pricy for what it is, but we have no regrets. We now have a very smooth and very quiet installation. Whenever I go on another boat, it makes me realise how smooth and quiet our drive system is now.

From the price you have been quoted and notwithstanding ths cost of them, it sounds as though you would be better off getting a whole new one from Haliard Marine.

I have no connection with them except as a satisfied customer.
