Trying to put a friends engine back together (was bought 'as is'), and i'm left with these plugs:

This one looks like the one that goes at the rear of the heat exchanger, but we have those installed on both engines:

I have no idea where this one goes. It has a 19mm head and I think the washer is for the nut:

3 more issues:
1) I am missing the seawater plug from what I think is the engine block. It's a long plug, with a square head (takes a 13mm spanner). It is on the stbd side, just forward and above of the oil filter, and goes in at a 45 degree angle - anyone got a part no. for this?

2) The plug for the aftercooler will not screw in on one of the engines. I reckon the thread on the aftercooler is damaged - does anyone know what size this is so it can be re-tapped?

3) Closed coolant - I drained the heat exchanger, but cannot easily find the other drains - any idea where they are?

Many thanks :)

I think that first one is a pencil anode bolt.

Anode screws on the smaller thread.

Might help you track down its location anyway. Volvopaul will know instantly no doubt :)

The aftercooler one is a worry. That bolt goes into the exchanger core itself. You don’t want to knacker that!

I'm planning on continuing maintenance this weekend so I could measure that aftercooler plug if you haven't received an answer by then.
There is another drain for the closed coolant beneath the turbo.
As said earlier, an anode screws on to the plug on your first pic scroll down till you get to pencil anode and you'll see your plug next to it. https://www.keypart.com/volvo-penta/diesel-engine/tamd41a/19861989

Thanks. I have the plug on my friends boat, so I can just measure it up or have it brought to a shop. I was just hoping that someone may know off-hand what size it is so I can just get that specific tap from a shop.

It's possibly the same as the heat exchanger . I can check that as well. (I'm looking at the item Stelican linked too)
The intercooler and heat exchanger seawater plugs on the AQAD41 are definitely different.

Many thanks for this info, at least now I can tell my friend to go find a 1/4 BSP tap... then we can re-tap and hope for the best.

Don’t know what it’s made of but it’s soft metal.....and super expensive to replace!

I am really struggling to find a part no. for the seawater drain plug, presumably for the engine block, which inserts at a 45 degree angle, just above, and infront of the oil filter (stbd side). Has anyone got any ideas?? It's quite a chunky (wide and long) plug with a 13mm square head on it

Thanks for the link. I was looking at that diagram yesterday, and the only plug that makes sense is item 7 - However, I cannot be sure, as the plug is quite big and goes in at a 45degree angle. Googling that part number doesn't throw up any pictures of a plug.

Item 7 is marked drain cock could well be the one as no ancliaries are shown just the block

Hi
Likely been answered by now (my phone is rubbish at going through all the replies) but the first one is defo the pencil anode and missing the anode. The second is likely the drain from one of the raw water cooled coolers. They are usually stainless though, I’m sure. Or they are on the tamd61 at least.

Here are 2 pics of the seawater plug in question, just above and infront of the oil filter (stbd side) AQAD41.

In one pic, the plug is in, in the other, it's missing.

Can anyone ID this part no?
