...arrived chez moi on 29 Feb. Another fab issue.

If I could, though, make one small observation in relation to the seamanship article on towing which otherwise offered a lot of food for thought, I did think Jon Mendez omitted one important and useful means of attaching a tug to a tow.

As this picture illustrates (apologies for quality, I was on my own when I spotted it and only had the blackberry to hand)...

...all you need is to have a JCB type of digger arm mounted on your foredeck and you can just hook the bucket over the stern of the tow, wind up the hydraulics and bob's your uncle.

I'm actually quite surprised that the big builders don't offer a digger arm as an option. It could be useful in so many ways. Perhaps there's an opening in the market.

Brilliant idea! It would have all sorts of uses. For example, you roll up in Monaco harbour for the Grand Prix and there's no berth for you; no problem, just dig your own berth in the foreshore! Mother in law is too fat to get out of the tender; no problem, just scoop her up with the digger bucket! Yottie rafted next door with halyards flapping incessantly; no problem, knock the mast off with the digger bucket.

LOL :D

If she gets sea sick she could ride in it too, held over the side of the boat ready to throw up the Lobster starter, T Bone main, death by chocolate pud (that didnt work) and bottle of wine you have just paid for ;)

We had a 500 tonne industrial crane fitted to the flybridge of the Princess when we first bought it, but it interfered with the TV reception, so we exchanged it for some crockery and a pair of monogrammed dressing gowns.
