I went to Dixons to look a one of these today, but couldn't get a straight answer to a simple question. Can I recharge an iPod from a battery rather than using the mains charger? Does anyone know?

Joe

PS Other than that they look to be great!

also if your using it on the boat, a great gadget is the itrip, it allows you to broadcast the ipod on an FM freq. Illegal in some places though!! Saves connecting it through the wires

Best advice you can get is "BUY ONE"

Had mine for over a year now and still adore it to this day - have been using it on average 6 hours a day and it is fantastic - boat tidier as well with no tapes/CDs on it - charge it from a cigarette lighter - baterry on mine lasts around 8 hours and charges to within 90% of charge in an hour

Do not know anyone who has one who does not love it!

Mine was a wedding present - now that is what I call a present!!!!

Completely agree. We have the 40GB model and as well as holding every CD we have it's also the backup for the laptop!!

Sony Mini Disks
Beware of Sony Mini Disks Mine won't record anymore I checked out their web site and there was a discussion forum there and a lot of the articles were saying the same thing.

iPods
You can also I believe hook up your digital camera to the iPod and download your pictures to them for storage.

Don't know about direct camera hook-up (the camera would need to have a firewire port I guess) but anything you can download to a PC you can store on the iPod. It appears to Windows just like an external hard disk. However, it was designed to mostly operate sequentially (retrieving music) and has a lot of memory backup to reduce hard disk usage, so using it a lot as a conventional hard disk (with random access) may shorten the life of the hard drive?

The only real problem I've heard about with iPods is battery life. Depending on how you treat them you can get anywhere from 5 or 6 hours per charge down to as little as an hour. We've got the 12v power adapter and the battery back-pack so we're pretty immune from internal battery probs. All-in-all it's a fantastic piece of kit and we wouldn't be without it.
