I am sorry I haven't posted anything this week yet on NtM. I spent the night on board last night so I could go off early and get down to the SW Sunk - which I did. I am just back from there so I have to crunch the data but forget last year's chartlet. That isn't there anymore. Please nobody try to use it. At LW this morning I could see a ridge of sand visible from the direction of the old beacon (not sure if it went down that far) right across 'our' swatchway and linking up with Mystique's knoll which is pretty big. I followed up the Barrow Deep side of the edge of Mystique's knoll for about a nm and then followed it round and across. Brings you out opposite Fisherman's Gat which is handy. But there are some issues in the form of two foul marks slap in the middle. I need to think about those. Having gone round them and finding good depth all round I went over the marked spots and found no difference. Having returned and checked the wrecks database they are recorded as 'fisherman's fasteners' with a depth of 1m - eek! I need to look at the data very carefully obviously before I can post anything. If I can't resolve this the swatch is very narrow indeed.

Anyone know what a fisherman's fastener is?

NtM hopefully first thing in the morning. There is nothing critical as far as a quick check shows.

Blimey, sounds like the swatchway has moved a long way over the winter this year. No plans to go that way in 2014 but next year it could be the Little Sunk for me!

And I was about to ask you what a Fisherman's fastener is.

I noticed a boat going over the Middle Sunk crossing when I was in the area the weekend before last. What's the story on that one now? I know that there was an arm protruding at the north side, but is this still growing? Might be an option.

I just want to say that you do an amazing job with this stuff, and I'm sure I'm not the only one that thinks so.

Incidentallly, not that anyone will be interested, I had probably the best sail of my life coming back (new Doug Seaden sails). Once I had turned the corner at the North-East Barrow I just flew. Relatively flat water off the lee of the Barrow, 14 to 20 knots and I touched 7kts. I know that's not fast for you gliberfast 'hardly in the water' types but this is seven and a half tons of wood, putty and cotton going flat out and shifting a fair bit of water out of the way. Straight through the Spitway and then a single tack all the way from the Spitway to Mersea Quarters all of it over 6 knots until I came in the lee of the Bradwell penisula and the wind headed me a little. Wonderful. By increasing the size of the Genny, whereas she used to only really get going in 18 to 20 knots, now she came alive at 13 knots. At 20 knots I really should be reefing. Yes I know, you all go faster. Bear with me and the MAB.
