My first post regarding not standing on too long was posted in good faith, I believed then as I do now but I have to admit due to apparent overwhelming posts to the contrary that there is a chance I am wrong.

I then believe some friendly trolls kept me here longer and I outstayed my welcome.

I apologise for posting the 'sails on pontoons', I felt someone was trying to bully me off the forum so decided to make a stand.......this was wrong of me but I had meant it in good humour, I realised I had overstepped the mark when a sensible poster I have a great deal of respect for politely complained.......sorry.

I had thought the friendly trolls were laughing along with me (or at me) but last night I noticed a whole barrage of posts that appeared not to follow in the same humorous line, and what was even more disappointing to me was some clearly humorous posts to me by forum regulars were being chastised as nasty posts and scuttleburks were arguing with scuttleburks.

I suggest we agree to disagree and move on in the interests of a happy forum.

If I was clever enough to resight Albert and the Lion I would, or if only I could remember the ditty about the Hartlepool Monkey but alas no so here goes Dakas attempt at a moral /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If you find a lost cuddly little fox cub do you corner it , poke it with sticks and feed it garbage until it turns into a cunning sly fox that will wreak havoc in your back garden, or do do let him go ?

I thank everyone who sent me PMs of support and for the posters who tried to defend me on the forum.

There was no malice intended then or now, have a great season /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Sometimes it is necessary to stick one's head above the virtual parapet. You (one) need fire to temper and strengthen steel.

Nice followup posting though, D.

IMHO there was a sense of humour failure by some, which I believe was caused by them not wearing lifejackets, using the wrong anchor and not displaying a motor-sailing cone when underway. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

What's up DAKA, won't anyone talk to you over on the Mobo forum? You seem to spend a lot of time over on Scuttlebutt for someone so critical of it and it's inhabitants.

I think you over estimate your effect over here, I am afraid you will never make a GC1 replacement no matter how much you aspire to. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Hey! What's all this about "your forum"? If you come here to play then it's your forum as well! Shouldn't your title be "Apology for the good of our forum"?

Indeed. I always thought that it was acceptable for me to visit (and occasionally post on) the motorboat forum, despite not having ever been on a motorboat.

or if only I could remember the ditty about the Hartlepool Monkey but alas no
...............Try this

In former times, when war and strife
The French invasion threaten'd life

An' all was armed to the knife
The Fisherman hung the monkey O !

The Fishermen with courage high,
Siezed on the monkey for a French spy;

"Hang him !" says one; "he's to die"

They did and they hung the monkey Oh!

They tried every means to make him speak
And tortured the monkey till loud he did speak;

Says yen "thats french" says another "its Greek"
For the fishermen had got druncky oh!

Tradition attributes this legend to the Napoleonic wars at the beginning of the nineteenth century. It was a December day and the coast at Hartlepool was subject to a heavy battering of gales and snow, through which a French vessel called the Chasse Maree could be vaguely seen just off the Hartlepool headland.

The fisherfolk of Hartlepool fearing an invasion kept a close watch on the French vessel as it struggled against the storm but when the vessel was severely battered and sunk they turned their attention to the wreckage washed ashore. Among the wreckage lay one wet and sorrowful looking survivor, the ship's pet monkey dressed to amuse in a military style uniform.

The fishermen apparently questioned the monkey and held a beach-based trial. Unfamiliar with what a Frenchman looked like they came to the conclusion that this monkey was a French spy and should be sentenced to death. The unfortunate creature was to die by hanging, with the mast of a fishing boat (a coble) providing a convenient gallows.

Well impressed, Daka. It takes courage to say that (especially if you don't really believe it! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif) - but it's your forum as much as anyone elses. It's for CRUISING people regardless of whether they cruise in a dinghy, a mega-yot, a kayak or MoBo.

I mean, they even let Scouser's on here. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
