Apologies all

Sorry for overreacting yesterday, but I guess I'm not used to the 'humour' here. I still maintain that there were some offensive attitudes displayed, but I withdraw the offer of sinking anyone (deliberately).

Matts: I found MVII via a web search, and managed to get over to Florida partly as a holiday, and partly to check out the boat. She was shipped over (literally) by sea, on the deck of a freighter (too big to fit a container, which is how I understand they bring sportsboats over).

The questions were genuine: the GRP has been painted over, at some point, so I'm not sure what to paint it with to repair, and the canopy needs a bit of work. I have a 110/240V transformer, but would like to change the fridge itself, at some point.

Any chance of some civilised comments?

Welcome back Duncan. You'll get some help on those issues here I'm sure but be especially careful about the paint; if the gelcoat has been overpainted at some point you'll need to try to establish with what. Domestic paint not the way to go.

Regarding fridge, that'll be a bit of a pain too because you could use another voltage converter but the start-up load would need you would need a big and expensive one. What is the make of the fridge?

The Fridge... I would be inclined to get one from a Caravan shop, they tend to cost about half the price of one in a Chandlery and for the life of me I cannot see a difference although I'm told there is one.

Re: Yippe-Hi-o!!

Caused a stir, but no matter!

Already-painted grp bit of a nightmare. I wd think thatthere is lots of room to unload (too much) cash at the job. Can't imagine that a quick rub-down and woosh over with car paint wd be catastrophic. A light metallic shows less scrapes. make sure you have loads to re-do and redo- it.

Can't promise quite such sensible remarks re Country and Western requests. The shame-faced lot who popped at you last time can help out:
"The Ballad of Duncan F Light", by Woody Wignall.
"Ah got the petrol-fillin' Blues" by jfm"
"Yo i've dun thinkin you wrong" by Pauline B and the Pigshits...and many more

happy boating.

Re: Yippe-Hi-o!!

It's just plain white. Are you being funny about the metallic (I know you can get some odd metallics, inc black, but I've never seen white)?

Very funny on the C&W side. There's some classic stuff around from the likes of the Outlaws, the Marshall Tucker Band, David Allan Coe and the Charlie Daniels Band, but some of it's almost impossible to find, and some you can only get 2nd hand on 8 track, which was why MVII was a real find. The unit's older than the boat (MVII is 1976, I think), but it's still great to find a working 8 track.

Re: metallic, 8-track

No: dark paint is utter no-no, and white will have to be a decent match and "grubby" quickly. Metallic silver doesn't show very much dirt/crud/seawater. In fact, I'm having metalic silver stripe and central band, and there's an entirely silver boat or two in the med - a pershing88 and Blue Ice superyacht. So it's all the rage. Obv you can#t do too much of it on the hull unless drag out and rub rub, but else where spose ok? Doing the hull would have to be done "properly" wiv Awlgrip or other proper marine paint.

Other options is some (perhaps loads of) sticky-on decals and/or stripes? I dare you! Loads cheaper.

try www.8trackheaven.com for imports.

I have a 12 volt fridge which you are welcome to have, it is new and came with my boat but used too much power. Let me know if you are interested.

Also do let us know when you plan to get your free fill of petrol, I could bring the fridge along at the same time!!

Awlgrip

Has anyone any experience of Awlgrip. I've got a faded red hull stripe (in the gel coat) I was thinking of getting re done this winter when the boat is out. Or maybe just cust back and polished? I understand red is about the worst for fading.

Duncan, a thousand apologies. Welcome to the forum
I've looked at importing boats from the US myself but I've been put off by the necessity to carry out CE certification which I thought was mandatory for all new and used craft imported from outside the EC. How did you get round this?

Dear Mr Light.

Sorry for the behavior of my self and some of my fellow contributors but I'm afraid your addressing your queeries to the wrong forum.
This lot here are just acountants, computer nerds, estate agents, employment agents, lay abouts or some thing a bit iffy in the city and would not have a clue on the finer points of boat maintanance.
Sensible questions should be addressed to PBO where all the knowledgeable people dwell.
This place is limited to. The good pub guide, Local redlight districts and has a peculiarly distastfull preocupation with toilets and there contents!!
Hope you enjoy your new boat and have many years of fun.

Re: sheesh.....!!

Oooer, sorry if got it wrong Duncan. It sure looked like a spoof though!

Anyway, on the basis that I misjudged the non-spoofness of your post I will of course stand by the free petrol offer. Where do you sail MV2? I'm in Lymington but we can meet up anywhere round there. Email me maxey_john@hotmail.com let's meet up, can I come for a ride too? I'm going to be down a few more weekends this year, then restart February ish. We can do it later this season or beginning next, whichever, lemme know

Kim, now that it's all turned out genuine, can you re-post the original thread. I only read it a couple of times and can't remeber details. Like did I offer to fill the main tanks or just the little jerrycan for the outboard? And surely I insisted on keeping the free glasses? Didn't I?

Now, who'd like a matching set of five thousand matching made-in-france tumblers, or corgi cars, or whatever the hell you get for free these days?

Re: wooshing over

I may be mis remebering but i think you cant woosh car paint over domestic because the car paint disolves the house paint and you end up with the most awful bubbly sticky goo that wont set. washes off with petrol I expect, about 300galls should do it

Re: Dear Mr Light.

A reminder to all that this is the forum covering all topics normally in the domain of Motor Boat & Yachting and Motor Boats Monthly magazines...the remit is a bit broader than perhaps has been suggested by HLB - there you are, got me serious again...
