Multi boat test from 1973

Click

Ah Unit 18, thanks, I remember that issue like it was the other day. Twas the first MBY I ever bought. May 1973. Great multiboat test, cross channel in a big swell, some boats were photographed nearly lost in the troughs. Someone on here kindly faxed me a copy of that article a couple of years ago - you I think! The mag probably had those moonraker and Princess 32 big colour ads on IBC and OBC

Edit - just clicked your link, fab! Do you have the orignal colour version by any chance?

Re: Apollo 32, Fairey Fantome, Super Swordsman, King Falcon, Moonraker

Yes, it was me. Still going in the Laguna, on original engines!

Re: Apollo 32, Fairey Fantome, Super Swordsman, King Falcon, Moonraker &

Thats back in the days when MBY was worth reading rather than current dentist waiting room fodder!!

Re: Apollo 32, Fairey Fantome, Super Swordsman, King Falcon, Moonraker

No, I got a photocopy from MBY, the link is from a Danish site.

unit18, thanks for posting this. What a great read. It should be given to all current MBM/MBY hacks as an example of how to report boat tests, warts and all. I particularly liked the dry wit of the Fantome's owner's report at the end. 10p/gal for diesel! We'll never see those days again

Had a 77 Mod Apollo 32 with 2x 120's back in Norway.... took us several 1000's of NM ...without any trouble

Cracking seaboat .... a bit "wet" ... and fitted rotating window in middle section ... , very solid and reassuringly built...

What an excellent test and read, full of constructive comment.
As mentioned elsewhere, what a contrast to the "High Gloss Cherry" puff of todays reviews with a timid, lets not upset the applecart attitude. The Laguna came out very well, now if only I could get it under Farleigh Bridge, mind you after a bit of trimming with me chain saw,now all we need is someone with a Lag..................

Thanks very much for posting that, what an excellent test - puts the tripe IPC dole out masquerading as tests to shame. Talk about dumbing down, not every body has a thirty second attention span nowadays! How about employing a critical technical journalist with some boating experience instead of providing this fawning infotainment pap.

I have pretty much given up buying the magazines, I know a photo is worth a thousand words but I can see all that on the manufacturers website, I want much more in the way of comprehensive specs, measurements and results as well as proper handling impressions hopefully gained by actually going somewhere in the boat, not just a quick bimble across the Solent and back!

Yup,been aware of that one for some time, did they ever do them with a single 50hp perkins /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

With regards to Scarrons post and possibly being a bit controversial here ,in
"ye olden days" the buyer of a boat of this class was somebody who had perhaps got his money only after 30 years of hard graft and now felt a reward for his effort was due.As he probably actually made something in his factory, the workmanship and construction of the boat would have been of interest as well as getting value for money.
In contrast today, the number of electric bogs or the layout of the cabins is of far greater importance and the magazine articles reflect this.
Now, the boat will be on lease and of course a no doubt well deserved reward for 18 months designing software for hedge fund lending scams or VAT avoidence via the EU .The buyer only asks that he can hold his head up in the marina "big white and shiney stakes " and that he has the right to moan with his equally hard done by berthmates about diesel being no longer 10p a gallon. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yes, but they call it a generator. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Don't worry, I've informed the emergency services, just make sure you've completed a risk assesment.
