Just paid €35.00 for one night in Lagos asked about a winter deal, she said we doun't do deals, read the brochure. So I did €1800 for 6moths not in buget.
So the question is dose anyone know a cheep....... Ha Ha MARINA .
I need to leave the boat for 4 months.
Cheers JB.

What's your budget for the 4 months..... even if you paid for 6 months and only used 4 months, that's about £10 per night.. even less if you use the full 6 months.

lagos is a cheap marina for 6 months, or for the 9 months from 16/9 to 15/6, and Portimao is a bit cheaper. If you can get a berth, one of the marinas in Gibraltar may be even cheaper.

Good Luck

Not quite the Algarve but Isla Canela, immediately on the Spanish side of the Spain/Portugal border, was very reasonable two years ago. Quite a nice spot but quiet. Seem to be opportunities to winter afloat or ashore. They have a website so you could search for it. Quite handy for Faro airport.

I am in Albufeira at present heading to winter in Puerto Santa Maria near Cadiz next week.I was told to avoid Olhao as it was filled with dubious characters and I only wanted one night.Met a lot of people wintering in Lagos.WhenI was looking for a winter berth there were very few places available but you might be lucky further south at Puerto America in Cadiz..out of town by the container yard so maybe not so full.Good luck

I dont know how big your boat is, but €1800 euros for six months sounds not bad to me. Just wait until you get into the western meddy!

By the way, I wouldnt have thought there was any room for winter in gibraltar, brother just left there and said it was choka-block. No shepherds now.

I've head that the anchorage to the north of the runway is closed so you have to go into a marina or across to La Linea. There are said to be half a dozen dinghy thefts a day in La Linea. Why on earth did they close the anchorage? War on 'Terror'?

Sounds absurd, I agree, but I simply relayed it as it was told to me!

Along the Andalucian coast it is quite difficult to get a berth, depending on your size. We are (just over!) 12m and finding it v difficult. Gib, Seville, Chipiona, Rota, Porta Umbria all turning away requests for winter berthing afloat. We are currently going month by month in Rota, which is cheaper than a full 6 months booked ahead in Lagos.

Puerta America in Cadiz is not a runner if you will be leaving the boat. The Real Club Nautico is supposedly moving in the basin because they are doing works to their space. This has been planned for yonks and shows no signs of happening. But because of it Cadiz will only take bookings a week at a time, and you must be ready to move. Puerto Ste Maria has got spaces (3600 we were quoted, inc IVA) for 6 months, but it didn´t look like somewhere that scruffy liveaboards would immediately fit in. A good place to leave the boat though; very secure. You could try Ayamonte, but Villa St Real is full. Barbate is making space if you show up but will take no advance bookings, so you pay the daily rate.

If your boat is maller you might find somewhere more easily than we have.

We are currently anchored in the Guadalquivir off Sanlucar de Barrameda which is lovely.

A good place to leave the boat though; very secure. Most Spanish yacht clubs are exclusive social clubs. You wouldn't appreciate it at a decent restaurant if the party on the next table were dressed in T shirts when you are dressed up and paying a lot of money for a special meal out....same with their yacht clubs. All you need to do is wash, shave and put on some smart but casual clothes before leaving the boat. This applies to almost all yacht clubs in Spain and is essentialto avoid giving offence.

Otherwise, as you say, Santa Maria is safe and the staff are fine if you speak some Spanish. Very little English is spoken. I was told by someone who should know that Santa Maria is dead in winter.

Sopromar, the boatyard in Lagos, quotes 331 euros for six months' storage ashore for us (10.1m), plus haul-out costs which is about 150 euros a go. It works out cheaper than being afloat and looks very secure.

We have booked a six-month stay (afloat) in Lagos today (28th) having decided not to press on to Seville. It's still cheaper than Suffolk Yacht Harbour!

As others have said there are certainly spaces still available here both for passing and long-term bookings. Bearing in mind other comments on availability I think we may have made the right decision...

Most of the ARC boats we saw were in Cascais and heading straight out to Madeira from there!

If you wanted to go back around the corner to Sines that is very cheap (14 euros a night) but I wouldn't like to leave a boat there in heavy swell.

I wonder how many of us will end up in Lagos for the winter?

Which berth/pontoon are you on?

Currently on C (just stepped outside to check number) 45 but when we return in a couple of weeks we'll be on E22.

I can't believe how many Brits there are here - after three and a half months getting here we feel like someone who has climbed a mountain with ice-axe and oxygen only to find there's a motorway going up the other side of the mountain with hundreds of people here already. Not to mention a Pizza Hut!
