Following advice from this forum and a boatshow visit, I want to fit a quiet Tecma toilet. All went well with my discussions with Aquafax until they asked "Is my toilet on a plinth?" and to be honest I don't know!.
I think I might have some sort of plinth but really my question is "How high is the toilet on an S37?" Mines in Spain, so I can't measure it so I'd be most grateful if, when your next down at your S37, you could measure it please. Also a few other measurements would be handy like the distance it sticks out? is the seat round or oval and anything else that you might think relevant.
ta in advance

David, what model is the current toilet, that you're replacing? I might be able to chip in with some comments (and pictures) about pipes/plumbing, having replaced a jabsco with a Techma Silence on my current boat. (I'm thinking about pipe runs, not dimensions of the plinth etc, which I can't help you with)

Wow! fantastic
My current one is a Jabsco which I made the mistake of converting it to electric (I should have just chucked it then!) but at least now I have 12v going to it from my bow thruster battery.
Any advice you can give me will be most welcome since I will be taking the new loo (A Tecma Easyfit...Standard or Low to be decided hence this posting) with all the tools required on my next visit to Spain in April.
thanks in advance

....and my first question is, jfm. I notice on the downloaded instructions that the inlet is 3/4 in (I'm going to take it off the fresh water...I think!) The pipes going to the taps are probably 1/2in or 15mm. I can naturally convert down but is there a flow problem and is the water pump sufficient to get a good flow.

David, a few things which i hope are helpful

I bought mine in UK (from the v helpful aquafax) and took to France on plane. The box was massive, lots polystyrene. I got funny looks as it went the outsize baggage X-ray and toilet clearly vis on screen. And i had to book an Espace taxi becuase wont fit in a car boot. Anyway, point is, when i got to France I suddenly noticed every blimmin boat shop had them in stock. I simply hadn't noticed beofre! Wish i'd bought locally. You can maybe buy locally? No big deal though

The foot of the Tecma is slender and all holes for pipes through the boat floor/wall have to be drilled within a fairly small footprint so they're hidden by the china WC pan. In contrast, the holes in the boat for a jabsco are usually spread out. Usually there is a hole well to the right for the flush water inlet pipe, close to the jabsco pump. Also there are a couple of big screw holes holding the jabsco to the floor, off to the right close to the pump.

When you swap toilets, you will want to cover these holes. My old toilet was installed a piece of teak/holley floor board and to cover the old holes I just installed a new floor panel, from KJ Howells. They supply it with lipped edge for the front visible edge, if you need that (I did). I placed the new piece on top of the old - cosmetic not structural. The same might work for you provided the front lip/edge of the teak/holly board (which will now be double) doesn't look horrid. On mine it didnt becuase the edge of the old was lost behind the carpet and it actually looks better now to see the lipped edge of the new board. But you might have to remove the old board before fitting the new one

Here is jabsco, with pump at right

and here is mine after install (I dont seem to have any "before" pix). This is in the tiny crew cabin off the galley in the Sq58

Yep normally a presurised water system will be fine to get good flush flow. The kit includes a solenoid valve. My boat is plumbed in UK 15mm and it was all easy to fit but iirc I might have had to buy a T piece from a UK plumber. You must buy all the plumbing in UK becuase europe doesn't use our 15mm push fit system. I'm on the boat 2moro - will take a look to jog my memory and a picture of the solenoid vale and interconnection with the boats 15mm piping system

Also i dunno why my images in the above post dont work but you can cut/paste the urls /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Thanks jfm
The cut and paste works well and a really good pic of your installation....nice job! Even after 2000 postings I still haven't done a photo yet.
Good point about the 15mm fittings, hadn't thought of that. I'll give some thought to the base also, my floor and plinth are all curvy GRP.
I'll be taking the car to Spain this time so won't have your transportation problem, but good to know that spares should be easy to come by locally and with the state of the pound It's probably cheaper here.
Thanks for your help thus far, all further suggestions gratefully received.

Boatshed.co.uk have loads of pix, 55 for each boat You have to register to view. Looks like you need a flat wood plinth, bit like mine in my pic?

OK here's a pic. sorry bout dust - it is right by the suction side of one of the airco chillers!

The bit in middle with yellow box is the sol valve that comes with the tecma toilet. The bit at left ringed red is from a UK plumb to allow connection to the 15mm pushfit piping that thr boat is plumbed in (you can see white pipe at left). You MUST buy this red-ringed assembly in UK becuase Spain doesn't do 15mm pipe. This assembly is a hotch potch, made up from a few parts and one of them had the swept T that you can see in pic so we just put a stopper in it. Anyway, if you take the Tecma valve to a good plumb shop they will have all the parts to make up an assembly

The bit on the right ringed green can be bought on continent but you might as well get from UK plumb shop too. It's a few parts to connect to a nipple/jubilee clip for the braided pipe that runs to the flush inlet on the tecma

Just to be clear, the white 15mm pipe at left of pic is supply pipe, tapped into cold water pipe supplying a nearby basin, and the braided pipe at the right runs to the flushwater inlet of the tecma toilet.

Thanks jfm, great pic!
I'm going to order the Tecma tomorrow (Monday) from Aquafax and since I'm down in St Albans on Tuesday may actually be able to pick it up from Luton.
Thanks for all your tips and I will have plenty of time to play with bits before taking it to the boat in April.
