It's called "Deadliest Catch" - about the Alaska crab fishermen - who fish the 2 week crab season out of Dutch Harbor (spelt the yank way).
First day score is crabs - 1 boat lost and 6 deck hands, 5 from the lost boat and one from another - fishermen nil?

Water temp 3 degs - survival time 10 mins - time to turn boat around 20 mins - you do the math!

In my time I have fished "commercially" but nothing anywhere near what these guys do. I could not imagine a more dangerous environment to work in, no wonder they get $50K for 2 weeks work!!!

If you can watch it then I suggest you do!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Isae that a while back.Having done a couple of years trawling on a Spanish dragger which I considered pretty dangerous the scenes of those metal cages whacking about was salutory, definatly have to know what your doing!

Yes saw it and was amazed at how tough and dangerous it is. The last one I saw a crewman went overboard and by they got him out he was gone.
Thats one hard life.

Yup, there has been a couple of series of that Show on over here in the US - they are a hardy bunch but very much in the hands of lady luck - both in terms of not being killed and getting a good catch ! I think they earn every penny !

The latest one is the third series. Must admit I've seen every one and take my hat off to them all.

Next tilme I am in Florida tucking into a plate of Snow Crabs, also known as the Opilio, I will think of what those men - and one woman - went through to bring it too my plate.

Thing is, whenever they brought up a near empty pot, we all groaned, but when they brought up a pot like the last one last night, we all felt elated and cheered.
