We need a new furling Genoa and as the boat is in Preveza having a local supplier measure and supply must have some benefits as long as the product is up to scratch.

My only dealings with Wapoint to date have been for sail cleaning, repair and storage, and they always seem to be surprised by the number of people who want their sails back in the spring, leaving us wondering if we will launch without canvas.

I've had good service from Waypoint for sail repairs and modifications in the past, although this was never during the early season mad rash. When I was recently seeking a supplier of new sails, Waypoint didn't respond to e-mails. Barry at Sioux Sails (in Vliho bay) did and we subsequently got excellent service from him/them.

There is a sailmaker in Preveza town now, tucked away north of the main street down at the western end. J-Sails iirc he has advertised in 'The Ionian' a couple of times. I believe that he used to work for Waypoint and that waypoint uses him for overflow anyway.

The quality of the work I saw in his loft looked good.

He fitted a new boltrope to my Genoa ( 14 metre luff ) while I went shopping in town and had the sail ready in about 3 hours and charged me €50 for it.

In June this year JSails made a new Genoa, main sail and a spray hood on our Bavaria 40 being hard standing in Ionian marina Aktio. We are very pleased with the job as our new sails were made by his own measurements. By the way, John started Waypoint together with his brother who now runs it and John later left Waypoint and started his own sailmaker shop in Preveza. I can only say that his work is real value for money.

My dealings with waypoint were good but you will need to stay on top of them to meet your deadline, and I mean popping in to their office and reminding them of when you need it. They did some excellent work for us with a few covers but they get very very busy and often forget their priorities. Cash works but dont pay it all up front (as if) and they are not that agreeable to the VAT question which at 23% is somewhat of a bugger, hence getting ours made and delivered elsewhere out of the EU and collecting them, saving 1K!!
