Despite painting 3 boats over the last 10 years with 4inch roller with okay results this year I've used Hempel gloss with same type of roller but with frequent tipping off with a good quality 4 inch brush. The result is very patchy despite sanding down twice in between coats.

Hi

I used a roller and pads with Toplac (one pack) and found that if the paint was thined by approx 25 % that the finish was as good as spray !!!.

Top tip - get some foam brushes to reach the parts where the roller or the pad cant fit (i.e close to the gunnels) and also if you have the roller in your left hand and the pad in your right (dont leave the rollered paint more than approx 2 mins to get a super smooth finish)

Good luck

Thanks. I was planning just to use the paint pad and tray with the use of an extension rod maybe. So you used the pad for tipping off?

I painted a boat beautifully even if i say so myself.

Looked like a spray job.

Jotuns, white.

Rollers, followed by "Jenny" brushes I think they are called.

A lot of fine grade wet and dry rubbing down went on from after priming her to between coats. An awful lot of wet and dry. Prep was the key and a calm hand (but quick to keep the wet edge - two people would have been a big help; one rolling one tipping off) with the jenny brushes.

I regret selling her.

Jenny Brush works for me, with certain paints.
Got a good finish, didn't use very much paint so technically probably not the correct film thickness.

Try different tools and paints and see what works for you.
