I am building an instrument bulkhead above my chart table. My 9mm 'teak one side' is fine for all except a small end panel (circa 300mm x 300mm) that shows both sides. I am considering buying a (much bigger than I need) sheet of 'iron on' real teak veneer from an ebay seller. Any good?

Yes...it works fine. If you haven't got a iron handy, you can always apply it with a heat gun and a wooden block. That's a particularly good method to use, when applying the tape strip on door edges etc. On the curves use a piece of doweling/broom handle to apply the pressure.

Just make sure you get it right first time though, it doesn't like being re-heated.

Yep used a lot of it, it is real teak and looks great, make sure you get it good and hot and make sure its all stuck down.
No boat builders around you? Where you good beg or buy a small piece of teak both sides? Or even glue together two pieces of teak one side?

Don't forget, when ironing on, use brown paper to stop the veneer from burning. If using proper Teak veneer use something like Thixofix which will give you a chance to position, unlike an 'instant' contact adhesive.

Now i will let a secret out .. but practice first.. this works.. and is much more water proof for small areas .400 by 400 is about the limit. get some cascamite powdered resin glue ..mixes with water. Dont get it on your hands and use that with an iron.. on plain veneer but the iron must be on a low temp perhaps about 50 degrees. you musnt let the water in the glue get too
hot if it starts to steam you get bubbles brown paper keep the iron moving over and warm it all over so it dosent set in one place first

Cascamite keeps changing its name extramite same stuff plenty of pressure with iron practice first totaly waterproof set Depending on exact temp of iron it takes only 10 to 30 secs to set takes a lot of practice if you want to do it on a small convex surface
