Hi there,

I have been trying to find somewhere "economic" to keep a boat I am looking to buy on the south coast....

Such a place may not exist.

The price for the Cardiff Drystack seem good value in comparison with some additional benefits.

1) General and usual benefits of a drystack
2) One free night with every launch at Cardiff Marina - which as we will usually only go for one night at a time will suffice to cover most weekends.
3) Cardiff bay is pretty sheltered so if its blowing a gale we can whizz round the bay and explore some rivers....

But - the water in the River Severn looks filthy pretty much always - if we leave the shelter of the bay are there nice places to go within a reasonable day run in a 20 ish knot boat...

I know the traffic from Bristol to Cardiff can be pretty bad in the evenings (well anytime really) but in reality the South Coast can also be pretty bad and I may well move somewhere else in 2026..

So has anyone stored at Cardiff drystack and is it any good?

You dont mention the type or model of boat, but it would be useful to give an idea of draft and seaworthiness.

The Brizzle Channel will kick up wind against tide very very quickly, and you do need to be able to reach the harbours on both sides in lumpy conditions.⁴

Yes, the water is grey but it's clean mud not industrial pollution

I'm pretty sure you will not be inconvenienced by lots of commercial traffic, except perhaps under the bridges.

Sports cruiser around 24-26’ - fast cruising at circa 20knt speeds with 25knt possible for short “run for cover”type blasts. Quite happy to blast round the bay, explore rivers and go out in the channel on nice days weather permitting
