Anyone use tubular webbing for anti-chafe

Hi, I use tubular webbing on the strop to my reasonably exposed swinging mooring off Fairlie in the Clyde. It has lasted reasonably well for two seasons and prevented any visible chaff on the multi plait rope. Is has gone from blue to a rather faded off white and probably needs replaced now. No idea type as the rigger who made the strop supplied it (at my request). Overall I would say it has worked well.

I changed to this after getting a call on holiday one year from a neighbouring owner to say that he had caught my boat hanging by a thread when the three month old plastic covered strop had very nearly chaffed through!

While browsing the Net I came across a site that recommends using tubular webbing for protecting all sorts of lines from chafe

Does anyone have experience of using tubular webbing and if so, what webbing do you use?

Yes using it on fixed berth lines. dunno what its called but its grey & stocked in Fox`s swindlery. its not expensive & they do mail order

I know a very risk averse forumite who uses old firebrigade hose. Very tough stuff.

I've got old firehose (eBay v. cheap) and something much more expensive from a chandlery which is a piece of webbing with a velcro fastener down the side so you can wrap it round a rope and secure it. It means you can get a tight wrap and it doesn't slip.

In my previous berth which was often exposed to very high winds, I used fire hose. This would typically last a season and would prevent any damage occuring to the warps. Without that I was changing warps every season as they would be worn half way through.

Thankfully now I am in a much calmer location and have no need for the fire hose anymore.

My mum got the fire hose for free from the local fire brigade (as much as she could carry).
