Anyone Turbo\'d Ford Diesels?

Has anyone ever fitted Turbos to Ford 6cyl Diesels either using Lancing Marine or any other company's parts?

Did it make any difference to the performance?

A lot or hardly any?

How reliable has it been?

I am tempted but have heard lots of advice in both camps ie some say do it, more seem to say dont.

Thanks in advance

Well Sabre use to do so as a main product lime and mermaid, so Lancing techno is presumeably similar.

Sabre 6 cyl natural aspiration were 135 hp Turbo, 150 & later a 212 intercooled leisure version

As for reliability we have had no probs with Sabre 150s , which compared to todays v...os are little stressed.

Re: Anyone Turbo\'d Ford Diesels?

Correct me if I am wrong but can an asperated engine be turbo'd without any other mods. I thought that the cylinder heads were different, why not go to the horses mouth and ask Mermaid Marine or Sabre Marine engines, I feel sure they will give the definitive answer.

Thats the point, Mermaid are one of the doubters.

But are they going over cautious as on the flip side Lancing have been selling the kits for years?

Anybody out there who has actually installed the kit?

To produce more power, you need more air, hence the turbo, however you also need more fuel, which is why the diesel injector pump on turboed six cylinder engines, is re-calibrated to deliver more fuel (at the correct time). Be careful with just bolt on modifications for more power, it's not as simple as some would have you think.
