anyone tried an ST70 yet?

I had a play with one at the New England Boat Show today - looked very impressive. Not sure if the colour display means it has a higher power draw than the ST60's? However, one unit can present any information so potentially you only need one display - that said - they're not cheap.

I don't get them, far too playstation. Are these supposed to be superior to the ST60 analogue units?

I presumed they were being aimed at powerboats quite honestly, no offence to mobo, but petrolheads really do like their luxury to be measured by pixel counts!

Not so, Oh Mr All- round terrific Forum member.
There's no Pixels at the bottom of My garden /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Anyway, still trying to figure out the Yellow Gadgett /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

we are refitting the boat just now and as there was no wind instrument or speed, we had to fit something, so since all was to be new and I wanted it all to be integrated, I decided to go for the latest toys, so E80 and ST70 at the helm along with the current AP16 Autopilot. Laptop at the nav station with RNS 6.0 software and new wind, speed and HD depth/digital fishfinder/temp transducers. Also Ray240 VHF. Just hope it all works.
Might be fun later to try to tie in the engine instruments to the ST70 also.

Sounds great - a big hit to the wallet! One point I would make - the Ray240VHF doesn't actually integrate to the seatalk system (its just via NMEA) - with this in mind I would go for the Standard Horizon GX1500E with the optional RAM mic for the cockpit - its cheaper than the Ray240 and has the RAM mic option (which is the best bit of kit we've bought to date!).

Well - report back how it all goes!!

We've also got the Lifetag's on Seatalk (only just installed so no report on operation yet) but sound great in principle.

Ray240 specs also supplied with the loudhailer option and the second station for the helm.
Only thing I would have liked better would have been if Raymarine had an AIS B Class option, but had to settle for the A class.
I know it all sounds a tad expensive, but all purchased in the US. Just over £5k plus fitting and that included the 4kw radome and ray125 gps.

I am about to install a new inboard autopilot and will probably go for the 70 control head however niether it or the new SPX course computers are available in the swindleries yet, shades of the release of the ST60+ which took nearly 6 months to arrive.

Ah, sorry my fault - when I was looking last year Raymarine didn't do second station sets (well, not at a reasonable price anyway) - must be the new set!

Sounds good to me. I'm over in the US at the moment - prices do seem reasonable (but that may be because I'm used to rip off Britain prices!).

Good luck with it all - should be an excellent bit of kit when installed.
