Not strictly relevant to the Thames although he does cross the Thames and venture up to St Kats during the series.

There is a Series on Youtube of videos of this guy taking a gap year and sailing around UK in a tiny 19foot Yacht, and he aims to visit every Creek on the way.

He passes by some familiar territory is Ramsgate, Swale, Mudway, St kats and then up the East Coast where my olds live..

What impressed me is the quality of the filiming as he is on his onw on a tiny boat. I also think he has an excellent voice for documentaries which helps a lot.
You could feasibly take these videos and televise them almost without editing.

Anyway, have a look see for yourself, beats working during the day...

Yes, seen those he has a bit of a whinge about pollution as well from somewhere up the Merdway.

But such a good view of cruising grounds, I will allow him the odd rant.

Some have even accused me of the odd rant before, cant understand why.... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

One interesting point I may email him on:- on number 17 he is on his way up the Merdway to allington on a falling tide (dumb thing to do) and the next issue he is back down looking over dartness fort. I would love to know what happened ie did he run aground and spend the night up there or did he bottle it and turn around?
We did something similar few years back on JAWS boat hence my interest.

One of those boats did come ridiculously close to him and in my view does nothing to enhance us avowed Stinkpotters to Raggies. Personally, even when in open waters I gave a VERY wide berth to sail boats.

Agreed, but if pushed we could all come up with videos of stupid people in boats both yottie and mobo but we don't. Also he labels all of them "twassocks" not just the one who came too close.
 
Dylans videos are very entertaining way to kill any long winters evening over 30 of them and well worth a look,those MoBos with the funny names he is having a dig at are moored at RCC,the destination of choice this year for BCC cruise..
 
Yes, watched his as well, but in my humble opinion not as good as Dylan who shows the places he visits in more detail where Nathan seems to spend most of his videos cooking...

Still any boating videos are ok in my book.

I would like to point out that Dylan Winter is/was a professional videographer working for the BBC or ITV or independent and is in his 40's or 50's. He has been doing it all his life.

Nathan Lee, on the other hand, is a 26 year old and has only been doing it for approximately 30 minutes! (4 videos at 7 minutes each) /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Nathan is a young web designer not a videographer by trade so I think some allowances have to be given to the lad. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Quite, and I agree Dylan's are indeed better, but as lenseman pointed out, Dylan is a pro, so I should hope they are better /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
I had never touched video until the day I made part 1, so I'm hoping they'll improve over time.

Point taken about the cooking though. The trouble is, I find it hard to film when I'm moving since I will and do go out in anything up to F7 which means the boat is a hell of a handful and requires full attention. I do and try to squeeze some filming in, but believe me, it's hard, so I end up with loads of footage when I'm settled down, then have to try and make up circa 10 mins with what I have on the tape.

That said, constructive criticism is more than welcome. Filming and, definitely editing the video take up lots of my time, so I might as well have them as good as I can muster.

Steady on guys dont get all hufferty on me....!

Both sets of videos are far better than anything I have ever been able to generate and provided me with a few afternoons pleasure whilst I should have been working.

A little more footage on the places you visit makes them that much more useful as a guide for possible destinations to go on the boat. Thats all I am saying.

I take my hat off to you for going out in a bad weather in a small boat and getting any footage at all.

I went through the lock - the keeper was a bit surprised to see me late in the tide

running aground never bothers me - even if I had to wait for the next tide to pick me up again I would have enjoyed my unplanned sit down on the Medway - plenty if whisky, cigars ,food and radio 4 on board at all times

the lovely lock keeper at Allignton loaned me a key and I spent three very happy days travelling all the way to the top of the navigation - the Medway really is the most surprisingly entertaining and beautiful river.

I filmed it and will edit it this winter once I have finished sailing for this year.

Aplogies to nice mobos for rants about bad mobos - but blimey when you are in a 19 footer some of those washes are huge - even when they are obeying the speed limit.

I have been sailing around the Orwell recently I am convinced that many of those ships produce smaller wakes than some of the more extreme planing mobos when going at 6 knots.

However, you blokes are very nice - following my report about Ramsgate I have had death threats sent to me via you tube and email. Thats not very nice.

Dylan,don't be 'more temperate' & sanitize your video's please.It is your outspoken views & character that I like.Somebody should speak out about the selfish incompetence of many motoboaters & jet skiers & pollution in general.
The places you visit are wonderful & I like the down to earth earthiness of it all.
It would be a pity to spoil it for the sake of political correctness.
My only criticism is that you just do not bring them out fast enough & I look forward to the next one.Thanks:)
