Anyone recommend a sail repairer (East Solent)

Need a couple of small repairs done to my mainsail. Can anyone recommend a sailmaker in the Soton/Hamble/Farham/Gosport/Chishester area that do repairs at sensible prices.

I've had a couple of rather expensive experiences in the past, so want to find someone I can rely on not to rip me off.

I have just had my cruising chute snuffer repaired by Hoods in Gosport. Not picked it up yet, so I can't vouch for the quality, but they have been very easy to deal with and I thought the price was reasonable - might be worth having a chat with them. I think they do all the work at their main loft else where, but you can drop off/collect at Endeavour Quay.

Hi, just had my mainsail cleaned, repaired and sail numbers re-done at Lucas sails who were recommended to me by my rigger in Port Solent. I think there office is in Portchester though the loft is out of the way in a small industrial estate on Northharbour road on the A27 a mile East of P. Solent.
Very happy with work done and a good price to boot.

I was quite pleased with the price of a new jib from them - another sailor who had some work done by them counselled me to make sure I got quotes in writing before getting the work done... just common sense really... wouldn't put me off going back to them....

I don't want to be lugging the sail around and getting quotes, which is why I'm looking for a recommendation, as so many of the Solent lofts only seem to want to make new sails and aren't really interested in doing repairs (so charge a fortune for it). I'm ideally after a man in a shed who is happy to sew a couple of patches on for me for £50 (that type of thing). Thanks to all so far, a few good suggestions in there.

+1 for Arun, they've just re-stitched, cleaned & re-proofed my cockpit canopy (Westerly Regatta290). Very pleased with the result.

A friend of mine recommended Dynamic Sails, Westbourne , PO10 8RS. He'd been very pleased with the work that they had done, I've not used them myself. No connection.

I got several quotes for a UV strip replacement from various sail/cover makers. The cheapest was from Banks sails www.banks.co.uk. The job was completed on time and as per quote. They are in Park Gate/Sarisbury.

They re-stitched the uv strip and didn't try to sell me a new one.

+1 again for Arun/Rockall. I've used them for the past five years - no job's been "too small" for them. They have a "branch" in Gosport too, if it's more convenient than Bosham for you.
