Johnson 3.5 around 2001 I'm not certain it's from the outboard it was right below my teleflex control but it's working fine

Well I don't know if I've needed it because I don't know what it is or fell out of. I don't want to find out I do need it when I really need it. Pretty sure it's not always been in the locker

I'd go and start looking for something like 3mm cables that need a stop. As post #2.

Looks like a cheap 4mm dia "Banana" plug without its insulating cover.

I don't think so the split part is tapered so it wouldn't stay in if pushed into something. Thanks for all suggestions though. I was hoping someone could say it's a ...... from a ....... Hope the pic is ok I uploaded it from my phone but when I view it in my iPad the dimensions are a bit distorted

its possible that it is a valve core plug removal tool kept on a keyring by a cyclist or for an inflatable fender core plug removal.

It doesn't need to be tapered. The split is used to create a crude spring. The screw is for holding the wire in the cup. Normally there would be a plastic cover as well.

There's a small grub screw that would hold something in. I'm more inclined to think a cable end stop off something.
