A friend of mine is there. The shower block has been demolished and there are now 3 showers in a portacabin for the whole marina. Carrefour is a construction site and the whole place is dusty and horrible. We're going to Alderney instead....

We were there a week ago when they had the small boat show. The portacabin showers aren't actually too bad, but can get a bit damp and obviously aren't as good as the proper showers.
The thing that hit us - €1.50 per litre for diesel. Ooof!

Sounds not too bad to me.
My marina wants £1.31 for a litre of red (60/40).
1.31 x 1.18 (current official FX rate) = €1.54
Makes it cheaper for me to buy white on the continent than red over here.
And avoids any problems with officious officials too.

We thought we had been ripped off when we saw diesel at around €1.36 at a local supermarket chain.

Then we had to pay €1.59 at a marina on the river! Buggers had us by the goolies as we were running on fumes after our planned fuel stop had a broken pump!

I was there last weekend. Next to the portakabins is a new building, great showers and toilets. Unless they demolished it in the last week your information is incorrect.
carrefour is open, the building site is next door to it.

We thought Cherbourg was a bit of a dump, not much activity in the bars last saturday unless we missed it, we ended up in the Irish bar.

In the UK there's a 'marina premium' too.
Filled up the car at Watford Asda last night: 135.9p

60/40 red in my marina 131p.

Do believe that 40% of tax amounts to more than 3.9p.

Irish bar when you had the opportunity of:

...?? :D

When I was a kid the only view we had of Cherbourg was what we could see when my Dad raced through on his way to points south having disembarked the Townsend Thorensen as quickly as possible... since then I've been back and have to say I really like it... good places to eat, nice ambience...
