Hi
Was anyone on the Orwell between Levington and The Orwell Bridge on Saturday afternoon?
Our cruising chute had its first outing in anger and went really well but it would be nice to have a picture of it in action.
It was green, yellow and white and we look like the avatar.
All contributions gratefully received.
Cheers
Duncan

Hi

I was out in the Orwell on Saturday and I did see a yacht flying a cruising chute and it looked pretty good to me. I was interested because I have a cruising chute which I've only used once.

We rigged it on a trip to Ostend. (Nothing much else to do on that passage!) After what seemed like an eternity rigging the thing we held our breath as it was launched waiting for the sky to disappear and us to surge forwards (I'm used to spinnakers.) When it when up it was a total anti-climax. It gave us little or no extra speed and it looked very wimpy. Which made me wonder if it was actually the right size for the boat.

But yours, if it was you, looked nice a plump and seemed to be pulling well. Didn't take a picture though, sorry.

Hi, I took some pics on Saturday, and have uploaded them onto http://www.yourboatpix.co.uk/
I know little about photography and even less about recognising boats. My eyesight obviously not good enough to read the names. I'm only a novice sailor too, so please excuse my mistakes. If anyone can recognise any of the un-named yachts I will try to add more information. I think the idea of posting pics is great and hope any I have posted are discovered and enjoyed by their owners. Please let them know if you are able to do so.

Hi
Thanks for that. I've had a look and can't see one of us. There is one of another - Barracuda - which we we sailing by (just past Levington) so you may well have seen us.
I will try and upload some of my pictures onto that site. It's a great idea as we never seem to get pictures of our own boats - especially under sail.

Please don't feel inferior. I haven't even got a cruising chute and I've never tried using my spinnaker. I didn't take many pics. Too busy trying to keep the boat under control. Haven't done much sailing lately, been searching for a new helmsman. I shall look out for you and try to take more pics next time I'm out. Keep telling others about the site, but please only pics of Blue Moves if we're getting things right!

yourboatpix is me. Thanks for the uploads - it what makes the site work. I was out on Saturday from Levington on my son's old, oops no, classic, Nicholson and took one or two myself but I only have a camera phone now and unless you go rail to rail you don't get much.

Any ideas, suggestions, crits are welcome. At the moment it needs a bit more volume so if you like it, let folks know about the site.

I know it needs some means of getting messages back to the uploader but that is tricky without imposing the need to register which I want to avoid. I sort of assumed everyone would use there ybw username and communicate that way.

As for mobos - we had a few at first but they haven't taken off. My theory is that mobos go about more in company than do raggies and so can organize mutual pic taking more easily

(edited for typo)

Hi Shmoo,
I uploaded the pics taken on the Orwell, but can't name all the yachts or even recognise the type. If anyone can recognise them I will add the details. Hope I managed to get the one you were sailing.
IMHO...a great site.
Margaret

Shmoo,

it's a v.good site - congrats for setting it up. I'll try to take more pictures while we're out and about. (I'm usually too busy being "winch monkey" while SWMBO helms /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif).

cheers

John

I try & take as many photos as I can,and upload to Shmoos site. Been at work for the last couple of weekends tho' so can't help.

Me & my camera will be out & about from Thursday 23 to following Tuesday, tho might be going a bit further afield.

Berni, we are based at Levington, and if I see you about I'll be sure to get a shot - What's the name of your boat ?
As for inferiority, no photos of Limbo pretending to be in the southern ocean posted yet - only the one I took of us moored at Brightlingsea!

OK, I just trawled the yourboatpix site. Didn't know about it before. Can't see my little boat anywhere. Now we (my boat and I) have an inferiority complex. We obviously just aren't worthy. Boo hoo.

Its not just you. No-one has taken any pix of my boat and put up there yet and its my site!

hint I think I will be out this weekend, from Woodbridge, out and about and o/night in Stour on Saturday. Need to keep it simple because singlehanded. end hint

In view of the forecast (very) light winds this WE:

Guapa will be out and about in the Orwell/Stour/Deben region this Saturday and Sunday engaged in our first attempt this year to fly the kite in anger.

Any-one with a camera, a few snaps would be very much appreciated.

Our kite looks like this

I am informed that we are to travel a little further afield than the Orwell/Stour this weekend, as we have booked a long weekend off. However, if plans change I'm getting the general impression that I have missed you lot, even tho' I seem to have posted quite a number on Shmoos site. Got a few more to post when I get time to sort them out (none of you lot tho - yet!).
