Good friend of mine runs a business making industrial washing equipment, it's 100% stainless steel fabrication work. With the credit crunch, work is very slow, and he's trying to keep people employed rather than laying them off.

He's doing some stainless work for me on an "at cost" basis, and would be happy to look at any other SS fabrication work anyone needs doing. They are not a marine company, so would need drawings or sketches.

I can vouch for his/their honesty, and the quality of their work, In particular, their welding is exceptional, better than you see on most production mobos.

I hope this doesn't breach the forum regs, as it's not a marine business, and he's not trying to get into marine business. For him it's a filler till things hopefully pick up, and may be an opportunity for forumites to get some work done at very good prices

They're in Birmingham, I can provide contact details if anyone wants to pm me.

I should have added I don't have any commercial interest in the business, just trying to help out a friend.

Thanks Nick - a week too late for me, as I just hired someone to do mine.

Can he cut s/s sheet with a plasma cutter, from a sketch? I mean customer does sketch black pen on white paper, then he scans it, then plasma cut the s/steel to the same shape? I need this for some anti-chafe pads ont he deck

It seems the mods are OK with me raising this, or at least they haven't told me they aren't, so here's a link to the web site. You can see some of the stuff they do, and maybe judge for yourself if you think they would be suitable.

My mates name is Carl, he's the MD, and you can either contact him via their web site, or pm me for his private e-mail address/tel no.

They can order and work with a any grade of stainless. They don't have laser cutting and polishing in house, but can sub-con it if needed. They're not in any financial difficulties, just trying to do the right thing by their people and keep them in work.

Nick, are they capable of fabbing a stainless steel radar arch (A frame in RIBspeak) for my RIB like this one?

If so, please pm me the e-mail address

I'm looking for customised rod holders on an arch, similar to rocket launchers. After being let down by a local supplier, would appreciate contact details. ta.

I appreciate what your doing and as it's not for personal or commercial gain, I can't see a problem.

We also have a particularly good steel fabricator on the forum, obviously he won't mention it for rule compliance but he attends the Wokingham meets and boats on the south coast.

I only mention this because there may be some larger jobs and distance to your friend may become a problem for some.

Turns out the on-site guy at essex boatyards can get the plasma cutting done (outsourced to a local firm with the cutter) so I'll be trying that in the next few weeks and can report back. His name is Jason and he has signs up at EBY. But maybe you need a specialist name maker, like the one in chichester that advertises in mby. Isn't it called greens of chichester, or something like that?
