Is anyone planning to visit Dickies of Bangor, possibly for boat shopping?

May I ask a favour ?

My Hunter Horizon (yes, Benbow) is sitting rather sadly in Dickies yard having been for sale since September. Late last year I had the opportunity of a job in Africa and had to move very quickly, largely because of the need to get kids into schools for the new term. I literally made the decision following a job offer by phone while sailing to Ireland, turned round and sailed the boat straight into Dickies yard. I had a chance to winterise the engine and tidy her up a bit the following weekend, but apart from that my pride and joy has been abandoned.

It was of course exactly the wrong time to try to sell a boat and there has been no movement since then. Now that spring will shortly be sprung and hopefully people’s thoughts are turning to boat purchase, I would really like to know how Benbow is looking and whether Dickies have made any effort to spruce her up a bit. I can’t say I have been impressed by Dickies service and I am not convinced they are making any effort. After all I am paying to keep her in their yard so they win either way.

So if anyone who is passing could drop by, say hello to Benbow, and report back I would be extremely grateful.

Thanks

Benbow

Was there yesterday and just happened to walk by a Horizon (26/27). Well, couldn't miss it really cos it's on the right as you walk down the track from the car park/Swindlery to the boatyard - next to a Westerly Discus as I recall. Yours is circa £17K unless I'm mistaken? Commented to Nat that it seemed to be clean and tidy (externally) and was being offered at a much more realistic price than the Horizon they had for sale last year at £23K. Not sure if it's recently been moved into that position but I'm sure the For Sale sign was facing the fence - away from the track you walk/drive down. Shame you didn't post this on Friday - would have had a much closer look for you.

Re: Dickies - we went into the brokerage area, to the left as you walk through the door, and spent about 25 minutes or so looking at what was available, picking up details of the boats on offer, etc, and we weren't approached or even acknowledged by the lad sat behind the desk. Can't say we were impressed, to be honest. Sorry to be so negative, but you did ask...

Thanks for this.

Yes that is where I left Benbow. I think you have confirmed my concerns over Dickies lack of any real initiative in moving her. I think as an organisation they are reasonably profesional, but I am not impressed by the brokerage mob.

At least I know she is still there. Was the sprayhood up?

I viewed your boat last weekend!

I have since bought another, but yours seemed perfectly presentable. I was however a little surprised that Dickies wanted me to look at it, considering that one of my requirements for a fin keel boat...

All appeared to be in good order, but I'm afraid that I can't recall if the sprayhood was up or down.
