Got the apartment. Boat's for sale in the UK, looking for mooring and provider of ICC qual in Menorca (SE side). Preferably less than the Sealine school quote of £3K5!!
Any suggestions?

Hi

Don't understand your questions very clearly. I assume you are looking to take your boat to Menorca for your own ongoing use rather than sell in the UK? What type of boat is it?

So you need a mooring plus ICC? Is the quote from Sealine (not sure what £3K5 means) for mooring and ICC or just ICC? If its the latter then that is bloomin expensive.

Do you have any RYA qualifications ie Day Skipper Coastal? If so then you can get ICC by just getting in touch with RYA. If not then you will need to do course. There are several instructors on here you could contact - Solitaire & Powerskipper (who is current RYA Instructor of the Year) or if you fancy the sunshine try poster Sun Coast who is based in Southern Spain.

As you probably know there are few places with moorings in Menorca. In Mahon Harbour you could try Ash Bage at Sunseeker Menorca) or Garry Childs at Fairline Menorca they both operate a number of moorings. There is a small marina at Addaya and at Calan Bosch. None of them are cheap (although probably better than UK south coast) and availability very linited. Other than these places your only option is buoys & swinging moorings.

Sorry about ambiguity. I currently have an old twin outdrive 29ft Fairline on the Gt Ouse - never ventured out into the wash - plenty of mud!! The boat is up for sale.
This year we need to get ICC qualified, preferably in the sun of Menorca. Also would like to get a mooring sorted before buying a boat from somewhere out in the Balearics

Hello there Im not in Menorca but can give you a little advice
With regards to buying a boat in Spain. the majority come with the mooring but this needs to be made clear before you buy. Do not buy a boat without first making sure. 1. the mooring comes with it. 2. You have alreadry rented/bought a mooring to put it on.
Other favourable points are boats can be bought much cheaper out there & there is no difference in fuel prices, also petrol is readily available in most marinas. This makes a petrol boat very attractive. They can be picked up 30/40% cheaper than diesel
As for the ICC the Spanish dont seem to be bothered unless something bad happens or you make a pest of yourself. They had a purge when the Madrid bombings took place & went round some marinas asking for ICCs. They also confiscated some PWCs & ski boats operating inside the yellow bouys off the beaches. IMHO its best to have it. Ive been asked for it twice in 3 years.
once by the office when I took over my present mooring & once when the Guardia Civil were inspecting everyones papers in the marina but they only glanced at it.

What size boat would you be looking to buy? If above 10m in length you are doing the right thing in looking for a mooring first, below that lengthyou should be able to find a mooring. A warning though, these will seem very pricey compared to the Gt Ouse.

I can't recommend any schools in Menorca but as I mentioned above Sun Coast runs a school in Southern Spain that several forumites have used very happily (well either that or he bribes them). Shouldn't be anywhere near £3.5K either

Having spent our boating holiday last year 'doing' Menorca, I would'nt recommend Addaya as a permanent mooring. It's very attractively situated but, facing north, it's very much open to any northerly mistral winds which seem to be quite common in Menorca. You'd be very lucky to get a berth in Ciutadella which leaves Mahon, which is just as well as it's by far and away the best place in Menorca to moor a boat. As Meddreamer has pointed out, the best moorings seem to be owned by Sunseeker Menorca and Fairline Menorca but there are moorings all over the harbour including a big marina at it's eastern end who's name escapes me. It's worth taking a trip to Mahon to visit each marina as simply phoning up often does'nt get you anywhere
If you've been offered a mooring at £3.5k, I have to say thats quite reasonable by Med standards. Don't forget though that the rate is unlikely to include electricity and water and any local port taxes which the Spanish love to hit foreigners with

Mike, I read it that it was the training that was £3.5K but I could be wrong. Not sure who runs the marina by the powerstation but wouldn't want to be there

Hi Oldian,

I am Garry Childs of Fairline Menorca dot com.

As someone has advised, we have a training school for you to achieve an ICC in the sun and we can offer mooring solutions in Menorca and specifically in Mahon, where we currently manage 32 yachts of various sizes.

We have our own mechanics, after sales support, cleaning team and warehousing facilities to offer the complete marine service. We also run a charter fleet of 11 yachts with a complete charter management program.

Please check out our web site at fairlinemenorca.com.

I'll add a little plug for Clive (Suncoast) here.
He is on the mainland at Duquesa close to Mallaga just up from Sotogrande.
Good instruction and friendly instructors.
Some of our training was done in Gib so makes for an interesting change.

Probably speaking out of turn but Clive also has an apartment that he lets out - right next to all the restaurants!!

We enjoyed ourselves and came away with some qualifications.
