Anyone lost a dinghy?

Seems everone was throwing their stuff away yesterday. We picked up a bag floating in the Hamble river containing clothing, wallet, phone, passport and keys to an Aston Martin! We were sorely tempted but unfortunately, honesty got the better of us

It wasn't a dinghy that was lost while in use. It had broken away from its mooring. It still had its cover on it.

Even so, people are more likely to report is adrift than missing. They may have heard from the owner, not that lost property is one of their higher priorities of course. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

No we weren't actually. My nephew fished the bag out of the water and found a phone number written on a jacket in the bag. He phoned the number and was promptly accused of stealing the bag! The owner couldn't seem to grasp the concept that we'd found his bag and were trying to return it to him. We waited on the Hamble harbourmaster's pontoon for the best part of an hour waiting for the owner to turn up. When he did, he took the bag and departed straightaway with a throwaway line to the effect that maybe not all RIB owners were bad. Well he was a yottie and Scottish to boot /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I told my nephew that his reward would be in heaven /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Crikey. I reckon he will get his reward in heaven.

With me, it might have gone like this:

Me: "Hello, is that Mr Smith, I've just found your bag floating in the river"

Smith: "Conscience got the better of you has it, you thieving scroat?"

Me: "Goodbye"

Sound of bag splashing back into the water.

Actually, my nephew was on the point of chucking it back in when he was accused of stealing it but I persuaded him otherwise

Persuading him otherwise was fine, but it was also cruel from your part to deprive a young of the illusion that there's some justice in the universe.
An Aston Martin keyholder would have been a fair reward, not to mention the idea of the axxhole changing all the locks for fear of having the car stolen....
