Anything about the group of barges between Wilsons moorings and MTYC ? I went past there today and noticed a few chimneys smoking . Just wondered if they where liveaboards moored up for the winter or our non licence paying friends .

They are a floating boatyard, doing renovations on historic barges, were further downstream but lease ran out and was not available to renew. My boat has been moved to make space for them but they are a friendly bunch of OK types, or seem to be so far. Trying to turn an honest £ on the river these days can't be easy. Some liveaboard element I beleive.

I nipped down to the boat today and spoke to Mr & Mrs Wilson and they brought up the subject of the barges . It seems that the EA have told the Wilsons the boats are going there rather than the Wilsons inviting them . They also mentioned the residents are up in arms so i did a little digging .....

P.S I think thats All gold at the head of the page and Cuchilo on the far end just in front of Lemburg . Shall we contact them and ask for our boats to be removed /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Surely anything that promotes life on the river in all its manifestations is good thing or will NIMBOTT* rule the wavelettes.

Well it doesnt bother me , in fact i may even nip along and see if the want to sub out some joinery work . As far as i'm concerned i now have another pair of eyes looking after my boat .

I think it is great, good luck to them, we need more yards on the Thames and "yah boo sucks" to the NIMBYS!! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Hmmm after a few calls i understand this out fit used to be around bell wier . Very good at what they do so i'm told . In fact that good the barges are five deep with liveaboards waiting for work to be done .
As an aside doesnt the bloke that runs the EA moorings own a dutch barge ? ohhhhh whats his name again ....
All good for me as i can see a few right good piss ups next summer /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Spect they will be leafleted soon on the virtues of having a nice custom built staircase in the boat put together by a master joiner who promises not to use his phone much while on the job...... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
