Anyone know what I should expect for a GRP repair? Pictures attached

What do you think it would cost to repair? 200? 2000? Something in between? And how severe is the damage, do you think I can put on a mooring for another few weeks until I can get to it? Not wanting any damage from seawater or something like that. Might try to repair it myself if it doesn't need immediate action (but I am at the other end of the country as of right now) but not sure how I would replace the chipped away bits. Wood and then cover it with fibreglass?




I found Ribs Marine Services, as I heard they do repairs like that. But do you know anyone else I can contact in the area?

Less than £100 DIY.
No wood just solid resin and fiberglass , may be with a bit of thickener to keep it in place.
grind a taper 10 to 12 times the depth of existing glass.
Put a non stick layer on the blue hull.
Put something round the corner, under the white lip, to prevent slumping.
Build up the layers steadily.
finish with a flow coat and buff up.

Sounds doable then, problem is just me being away. Do you think I can temporarily leave it as is (and just move the boat on to a mooring, away from the pontoon that damaged it)?

I know, it's not ideal but it's not gonna be forever.

Easy build that up with heavy CSM or combo matting better still. Even better woven mat and epoxy which is stronger than poly resin. As Clive said though taper tall edges back well, give a more contact area for a better bond. CLEAN all areas with acetone just before laminating it up.

Looking at it, it mite be ok left but depends on what is behind the broken area and water getting in the boat, the damage does not matter as it will be ground back anyway so wont soak up much water.

They must be factoring in a full hull respray which it doesn't need.

It could do but not for just that corner if thats all it is. I used to work on boats and looking at that maybe £200 all in. Just dont do it anymore or i would of offered to.

Of course any yard involvement will up the price,bring to the yard from mooring,two men and launch,getting ashore and chocked up ,tent rigged over unless in the shed. Etc,etc

Will read up on this, for me the big issue is just the distance currently. This is westcoast scotland, I am south east england. Quite a stretch. But soon I'll be with her and then I can look at it.

Will suggest they cover it up with duct tape and then put it out on the mooring, and then I can go at it myself. I mean at first they didn't move the boat from the pontoon onto the mooring buoy because they were super busy for weeks, and now they tell me it's my own fault for allowing them to leave the boat there. I didn't even blame them for anything, to be fair I thought it would be safer near a pontoon than on a mooring buoy. But they throw that at me. And now they try to rip me off with prices like that. Time that I get out of there.

Yeah, see my second thread.

Apparently there was a big storm and the boat must have jumped quite a bit. It has other "injuries" as well. Badly scratched, too. Not entirely sure what exactly it caught on that chipped the transom like this though, but this is storm damage.

Maybe caused by the boat behind it, which wasn't there when I left.. The boatyard said not but who knows at this point?

Unless there is actual hull damage, which appears to be cosmetic, I don't see a problem there.

Thank you all for the input. I am just shocked, and it pains me that I can't be there to assess it in person. This was really unexpected. There have been storms before and the boat was fine. Wanted to be gone to Ireland with her by now already, but life keeps me down here.

Will ask them to tape it off andput me on the mooring then. And once there I will have a couple days to figure things out anyway, as I plan other installations as well.
