A friend has asked me to travel from Dublin to La Coruna to have a sailor's look (not an official survey) at a sailboat which has been in one of the marinas there since July 2007. His plan is to move the boat to La Rochelle and then offer it for sale.

Need info/advice regarding:
--lift, scrub and antifoul
--a good engine mechanic
--a good local bar
--any other useful local help

--Thanks!!!!!!!!

The marina office can put you in touch with a very good engineer called Xavier. We didn't use the lift out facilities so can't help there. The marina is in the city centre, so there are no end of great bars and restaurants. There's a small chandlery near the marina, and a couple of others a ten minute walk away. The yacht club is a collar and tie sort of place, but all in all La C is a great place.

IIRC CaptainSlarty was/is in La Coruna - I hope he's OK... havent heard from him for a while, and he was never less than vocal on many things.

[/ QUOTE ]I was about to post the same thing. I did have his email somewhere...

He left in August for Lagos but we haven't seen him there all winter.

Argonautica are a very good local agent with their own engineers who can find/get anything you need, but you will pay for their local knowledge.

The Yacht club is the best and only place to do-it-yourself. Commercial yards will not let you work on your own boat 'cos of "Health and Safety"

You haven't heard of him on here because he got banned when in his Mr Hyde mode.

I met him in La Corunna, and he was very helpful to us.

Hope they are OK, too.

We left the boat there for a month - toilet block was an awful portacabin. Gents showers at the end of the laundry room, no ventilation either.

Town was very pleasant, with cheap tavernas and tapas bars a plenty.

Didnt have any work done there so can't comment on the services - except the fuel pontoon in the other marina - and a stunning young lady in a wet suit ........ ah, happy memories!
