Long shot as they are an old engine
petrol twin 4 stroke side valve

marna mb10a
albin 021
volvo penta c 10
ailsa craig 021

these are all basically the same engine
i need a workshop manual for one
anyone have one?

cheers

I have most of it in my mind having tended to an Albin for about 15 years - but the tattered manual went away with the boat. Unfortunately John Stanton who was the agent has given up - probably in the great workshop in the sky now, but the factory is still in action and you may be able to get a manual from them. www.albinmotor.com

THing im wondering at the moment is How do i take the valves out?

a valve lifter or 2 screwdrivers ( if your lucky)

Head off first then valve spring compressor and remove the pin.

You will have to grind the the sale amount off the end of the valve as you grind from the valve seat on refitting.

Apply redex to the valves to lubricate the stems to avoid them sticking at slow revs.

Also make sure that the water injection into the exhaust is well down the pipe as you can get water back in, particularly if the engine is misfiring. This rusts the back cylinder exhaust valve which sticks and makes the misfire worse.

I have the head off and some of the valves are seized
and one was rusty and spring etc
i gave the valve a slight tap down and it promptly snapped off!
on inspection the stem was coroded halfway through
so i need 1 valve ...exhaust
anyone have one?
i will buy a spring compressor i really should have one anyway!
ill have to look for this pin is it below the spring?

yes your right its the back exhaust valve thats all rusted up and now snapped

this engine has been stood a while

bores look good..:)

Don't think you will need to speak Swedish - sure they will understand English!

From memory I used a standard type of spring compressor. The spring is not very strong, but I think the opening in the valve chest is rather tight. You may also find that the top of the valve guide is corroded away and that causes a local hot spot leading to more sticky valve. On the engine I worked with we fixed it once and it ran for some years, but then it stuck again despite using Redex. The exhaust outlet was also falling apart and the owner gave up and bought another boat. Pity, because the engine was super when it was working.

Recon a scissor type valve spring compressor will do the job?
amazingly i found a spare valve in my box of spares that came with this ailsa craig type
i recon i will have to recut the valve seats for this engine
the one in the boat is a volvo penta type and ill be swinging that into action hopefully next week
that one feels A ok when turning over by hand
i want to use the dynostarter only as a starter

What are my options if i have to recut the valve seats?
as having a look on fleebay the gear to recut looks a tad expensive.
ive lapped valves in but never recut the seat...
