Just had a couple of days in boulogne and the massive amount of screaming gulls made me leave early, much to the disgust of my crew who thinks boulogne is lovely! OK we did have a berth close to the disused ferry terminal but the irritating s&%@ hawks kept me awake most of the night - it was also very hot so I guess my patience was not its best?

yes we were in the tidal marina I wonder if it was due to the fact that our berth was close to the piles on the old ferry terminal and the squawking was amplified @@

Seagull noise is amplified in harbours surrounded by buildings or hills. I have fond memories of the sound of herring-gulls in Mevagissey, and the sound still takes me back to my childhood. I haven't been to Boulogne for a few years but I don't remember it as a problem, but that may have been due to the cheap booze.

I was born and brought up in Dover. When I moved away it took me a while to realise why I didnt sleep well.
I missed the seagulls.;)

Some years now since we last visited Boulogne, but I don't remember the seagulls being noisier than many other places, What I do remember is the odour of the water flowing down over a weirinto the harbour which, in weather like we have enjoyed lately, was unbearable. Hopefully that is now cured.

I have a pathological hatred of the flying rodents. Bought up in Penzance, I got regularly dive bombed in our street, there was a nest between chimneys on another house... I wouldn't mind but I was nowhere near them... I tend to lose my cool with people I see feeding them remnants of fish and chips etc...
