Anyone happen to know how Maxi mount their winches?

I know that winches can be either through-bolted, with conventional nuts on the inside, or screwed into threaded aluminium plates incorporated inside the deck. It's a long shot, but I'm wondering if anyone here knows which technique Maxi in Sweden favoured (circa 1998 if it matters)?

I'm removing a couple of winches from the new boat's coachroof so that I can reuse them on the mast. I'm nipping in and doing this in the spray bay while the painters are getting themselves set up, so need to make it a quick job. Just trying to figure out whether I need to worry about gaining access from the cabin or not.

I'd have thought that most decent Scandinavian boats would have access panels in the headlining if winches were through-bolted. My HR has hardwood circles screwed on to the headlining. If yours hasn't, I'd imagine there's an encapsulated plate.
 
For the benefit of any future searchers, my coachroof winches were simply bolted through the fibreglass. No washers (unless they were hidden in the huge ugly gobs of sealant) and no backing pads. No signs of the winches having moved or anything, though, so I guess it was adequate.

Access was easy on the starboard side by removing the heads headlining (five screws) but considerably trickier on the port side in the saloon. I'm still not quite sure how the saloon headlining was supposed to work, but I think I got it down and up again without damaging anything.
