My engine bay's pretty grubby, year's of grease and ****e thrown at it without much care and attention means it looks a mess.

So, has anyone done a bilge repaint job and been able to succesfully remove all the grease etc before painting? Any tips or especially suggestions of the correct paint to use and any methods of cleaning apart from standard de-greaser and a scrubbing brush?

Secondly, my bilge pumps in between the two engine's. There's not enough room to squeeze between them to get at it and replace, anyone got a 3' long screwdriver with a torch on the end:cool:

I re-flowcoated mine they looked like new afterwards but i had the engines out at the time. prep was just a case of a good sand off with p60 paper to give a key

I think you will struggle to get a good result with the engines in place as there will be loads of bits you cant reach probably a good hot pressure washer will be as good as anything

can you fit another pump in a more accessible position & forget about the origional one?

Scrubbed ours out with EVM (unfortunately no longer available but a good cleaner should do it) then painted with Danboline bilge paint from International. Did a good job.

Had the same issue with access to the bilge pump between the engines. Replaced with a new one fixed to a metal strip that I screwed to the bulkhead so it could be removed easily. I did cheat though as we had the engines out......

Hi andy, I flow coated my fairline but the engines were out, it looked great like a new boat but white was a bad colour for an older boat.

I'd use the grey danbolin paint, to clean the bilges buy some nappies , and buy a cheap steam cleaner it will shift the grime easy, or start with jizer degreaser it breaks down with water, then a detergent , and a wipe over with a paint prep solvent, then paint. I know what you mean about the bilge pump location.

Did you ever get to bottom of rev loss after new injectors etc?

Yes and it's not easy, these lucky b.... Who took engines out make it easy, where cables run along side of Walls you have to remove to paint behind. Stick to same colour or as close as you can, be patient and get it in all nooks. Packet of industrial wipes are a god send the jumbo packs.

EVM is still available, I purchased a couple of bottles a few weeks ago, however it was through the Sealine forum shop.

I have a cunning plan...

1/ Take boat out of water. Turn bilge pumps on.

2/ Pour bilge cleaner into bilges

3/ Catch excess from Bilge pump outlet, repeat until clean.

4/ Pour bilge paint into bilges, repeat step 3/

You can thank me later...

Unfortunately only what is/was left in stock. Suppliers are friends and had to discontinue supply for reasons beyond their control. Great shame as it was the best multi-purpose cleaner and de- greaser bar none!

Oh I see, but if you do a google search there does seem to be a few suppliers, maybe there is a new supplier or simply available while stocks last.
