Found this in the log of my old narrow boat.

Is this a piece of history /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif 32 years ago, seems like yesterday.

And another.

they are all coming out now, this was printed in the Telegraph May 26th 1975.

That's my old boat 'Wey Flower', and was at an IWA rally opposite Shepperton Wier at Weybridge, I think we were campaigning for restoration of the Basingstoke Canal.

That's me leaning on the front of the boat 34 years younger. DOH!

Re: And another.

I use the Wey every other week but have never been up the Basingstoke although I worked on it with the London WRG back in the early 70's. Worked a lot on the Wey and Arun tho'.

However, having got the Basingstoke opened again I was shocked to see a large section drained out for over a year when I used to pass on the train.

Has it all gone "tits up" again?

Bit of a "thread drift" I know - sorry!

Re: And another.

I've lost touch with things, now I'm a coastal boater.

I used to work with the Surrey & Hants Canal Society in the late sixties and seventies. Was at the inaugural meeting in Brookwood about 1966 I think it was.

Don't know what section was de-watered, if you saw it from the train, I guess Woking area.

I used to spend a lot of time on the Wey, went up the Basingstoke as far as the first lock, only about 200 yards, I know.

Never got involved in the Wey & Arun, though I was in Littlehampton last year, but that was by sea!

I have a brief case full of memorabilia but mine is from the Fleet Review on the Solent. I even have the original glossy brochure issued to all craft taking part.

... and the narrowboaters here really enjoyed your company last year. Have just returned from the pub with them and you were mentioned.
