Anyone got any pics from the boat show?

I agree... I had a wonder round on saturday morning for 10 min's (only went cos i wanted some bits from Marine superstore) went on the moody 41 classic.

I would not go that far but can understand your frustration with a the lack of boats on display.

BUT personally I met 12 people all of which had money in their pocket looking for a boat to buy, all genuine cases and I spent a lot of time with each and everyone of them going through what's what, some had very little idea of the buying process.

So on that level it was encouraging to see that there are new people looking to get into boating.

On another level I got the opportunity so show non boaters, dreamers and folk who have never been on a boat our boat (Blue Fin) many of those were somewhat surprised that you can get afloat for the price of a family car if you really wanted to.

None of these folk would ever go to sbs or lbs but all of these folk now have a copy of one of our magazines and you never know a boat by this time next year.

Not intedning for this to get into a boat show slanging match but I went to this show with the prime objective of selling subcriptions and magazines (which I failed to do) but I did come away having met several hundred people that perhaps have never steeped on a boat before in their life. I don't get that at lbs or sbs.

Oh and of course had the pleasure of meeting many of you lot once more for a beer!

Cheers

Otherwise translated as (tongue firmly in cheek, you understand!):

"I completely agree. It was a waste of space and time on planet earth.

But I did meet ALL 12 people who had enough money to buy a boat. I swear, my surprise at their entire lack of boat-buying knowledge is sincere.

So yep, there are people bored out of their minds all over the place that will find the time to talk about anything.

On another level, it was interesting to tell non-boaters that a Princess 42 was extremely surprisingly in the same price bracket as a family car. Of course, our household resists hatchbacks and won't do without our Phantom for the trip to Tesco's.

They were most happy to get a free anything. Bookmarks might have done better tho...

I had an inkling that this might be a total p&l disaster, but went to this show with the prime objective of getting out of the office. Result! I could talk balls all day... I don't get that at lbs or sbs.

And of course, I could get pissed with those nice folk on the forums :-)"

Richard, please understand the above is just having fun! No disrespect. :-D

Just typd a lovely long response but managed to delete it at the same time so not doing it again!

No a P42 is not the price of a family car but my shetland black hawk is worth less than the government scrapage allowance and I use it all the time to get afloat and take others out that was the point I was making but I think you really know that.

I will be talking to the organisers to give them my thoughts on the show.

I have tried and been to virtually everyboat show on this planet as well as more regianl spin offs you can shake a stick at and I have to say depsite the lack of boats there the audience certainly was.

As a former yacht broker (sorry many many years ago) I can sniff a bull shipper from 100 miles so would not comment on the 12 genuine folk unless I was sure. They came to the magazine stand to ask advice, which they got (I hope!) and as I was not selling anything they had no reason to waste my time which is something i get at lbs and sbs!

Cheers!

I think you are a bit unfair here.

There was a reasonable selection of sailing boats from France, Germany, UK and USA of various lengths.

On the Mobo side a good selection too - several that i had not seen in the flesh before.

It was a free do and i think the Marina, Broadwalk managment and the brokers involved did a good job there.

The atmosphere was good too.

Frankly put the last two Earls Courts shows into a cocked hat.

You simply cannot compare the P Solent effort to LIBS or SIBS. I have attended the last couple of RIB events in the solent (ticket jobs) and PS was much better. I agree a few stands would have made it more interesting and maybe some of the RIB people too but hey-ho
