Anyone got an electric primary winch on an Oceanis 323?

Hi,

Has anyone come across an Oceans 323 with an electric primary winch on the port cabin top? If so, can you tell me what make fits for the void space below?

I suggest you just measure the available space. The most compact electric winch I have seen is a Harken Unipower 900 which only needs about 4 inches of depth directly below the winch and does not extend sideways like most electric winches. See here http://www.harken.com/electric-winches/

Andersen winches have two different types, both seem to use the same motor

The motor above deck increase the height of the drum / winch

Never used the electric type from Andersen myself.

Will this not obstruct the quarter berth cabin door, or increase the possibility of bruising around the head.

Maybe not. There is a void hidden behind a wooden panel that I think was designed in for this purpose. The Harken Unipower 900 might just fit neatly. Am going to measure it.

One has to ask "Why", go to the gym it will be cheaper

Electric winches are lovely to use, but are expensive to buy and install. Before going down that route, have a look at the review in Yachting World (Jan 15 edition) of Pontos 4-speed winches. They are made by a French company and the review was very positive. There are a few videos on YouTube, one of which shows that the extra gearing enables a child to grind in a genoa.
