Anyone fancy running and living in the Smugglers Tolverne ?

Residence only though. Not an inn any more.

Hmm interesting. They are advertising it as a boating destination, also mentioning the car park.
The service was rubbish in the past so perhaps they just expect people to go ashore and lounge around.
Surely they expect it to be run as a pub again, it does say business opportunity.
The boatman used to run people there from the landing stage by the King Harry Ferry, not much point if there's no reason to go there.

Has it been run as a pub recently?? It was a,lays some sort of weird cafe lunch place that sold lager but closed at a early hour... Not something I would have called a pub... Whenever we visited.

It was also a H and S nightmare with the tables on dubious grassy ledges with shear drops... I suspect it needs substantial investment, But can't see how it could make a decent pub restuarant as its so small n the inside, and so illsuited n the outside...

At least they have got rid of all the bloody annoying rules... Don't run, don't talk, don't throw stones, no sandwiches.... Blh blah blah...

Tea house... That's what it is.

Well in the past it was a tea house and closed early. Then it did food all day staying open in the evenings serving food and drink. They employed a boatman to bring people from the King Harry Ferry pontoon. The estate put in a new posh pontoon at the Smugglers last year and then this year closed the place down.
It would be good if it were to open again, especially if they put back the moorings which were great in a north wind when the ships were laid up there! Only ships at present are the ever present Windsor Castle with the beautiful Dona Amelia alongside.

Actually it's a place of homage to the Americans. Tolverne, Turnaware, the Helford and others were departure points for the invasion of Normandy. Many of the soldiers died on Omaha beach. 70th anniversary next year, hopefully suitable services will be held in memory of the young men that set off from there.

So let me get this straight. They are looking for someone to live there, spend their own money to do the place up, then act as river bailiff and boat man (what does that entail?).

There will be a pontoon, 14 moorings and…. well why would we want to moor there unless there's some hospitality?

Actually, some showers there would be good….

That appears to be about the long and the short of it. Look at all their other properties, all leasehold, most requiring major updating work, all at the expense of the leaseholder.

But the Smugglers has always been a cafe/teahouse/pub, which was taken over by Tregothnan when Mr Newman retired. Imho they made a complete pigs ear of running the place, removed almost all the items of historic interest and then charged astronomic prices for minute portions of food. Once bitten, never to return. However there must be a real opportunity for someone who knows what they are doing to make a real go of the place, providing they can run it as an eating/drinking type establishment. If not, then there's no chance it will succeed.
