Boat parked outside. Launched at will onto the English Riviera. Seems too good to be true.

Now. Where did I put that £150k I had lying around?

Seriously though. Is it Nirvana?

Known locally in north Cheshire as "Wilmslow on Sea"
your 150k will just about buy you a small chalet, a boat & trailer and you will need a tractor.
You launch over the sands.

I believe they have an agreement locally for a tow in.

I think I was wondering whether it a good place to be based.

I dont know if the "Wilmslow on sea" tag is as prestigious as it used to be back in the good old days. Not since the bad lads with their guns chemicals and love of money started targeting the place.

Hm, i was dragged on holiday there for year after year in the 60's. All caravans at that time. It was drilled into us that we were in D11 for when we got lost. But then we were in a different one at E11. I learned all about budgeting there when we had holiday moneyof 3 shillings. Apparently i went into the shop and asked them what things they had got for 3 shillings. I also got stuck climbing the cliff once.

Must be mainly dayboating, but never had a boat there myself. Adrian Backhouse's dad did tho. Mydad was all pah, boats, like being in prisonwiththe aditional possibility of being drowned. Yeah, shurrup Dad.

I remember it sunny most times, and raining other times but not much. I dug several holes about 5 feet as man traps, so watch yerself.

Hi,

My family have had a place there since 1984 and still go a lot when the weather is right (and sometimes when it is not!)

If you are looking for a good investment, then The Warren is not it - you have to buy a new Chalet every 20 years and pay a ground rent each year, but what you are buying really is a lifestyle.

It's great for families, I was 8 when we bought our 1st place there and made most of what are today my best friends during my summers down there. Where else can you leave 5-10 yr old children to ride around on their bikes happily and safely all day?

As for boating, you can either buy your own tractor to launch it or use the service that's offered, both have advantages and disadvantages, but it's more fun to have your own, even if they do break all the time (well they are stufffed into salt water, so what do you expect!).

We graduated from small ski boats up to a 40ft sports cruiser which is kept at Pwllheli. The marina is not ideal in it's location and while very clean and with great basic facilities lacks some character - there are no bars or restaurants (apart from the yacht club which is hardly Le Gavroche) or even a shop to buy your milk, but I digress.

In short it's good but will not suit everyone. Oh, and they have ramped the prices up yet again this year, so £150k will not really buy you a chalet, get your patio sorted and get you a boat. You will need nearer £250k for all that and maybe more (there is a rumour that there is a chalet on the front line about to go on the market for £500k - this will have to be replaced at 20yrs old rememebr!). It sounds daft, but they don't seem to be short of buyers.

Hope this helps.

B

ps I think you will find it's the Welsh Riviera too....

There are plenty of other, less expensive places in the same area and you only need a good day boat to get started. The Marinas facilities or lack of them will not be an issue if you are launching from the beach. You dont need to spend 250k to have a great family friendly holiday retreat and a good boat.

Always makes me mad how people think that paedophiles don't own caravans/ chalets or operate in places like this... so naive!!! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I think you need to calm down. While there is a latent danger of paedo's in most walks of life, it is a slim one and events such as those in Portugal recently are blessedly rare.

Have you ever visited Abersoch in general and The Warren in particular? I suspect not, so perhaps you should visit the Warren and see what it is like before you make wildly general comments such as those above.

You do need to protect your children but there are always boundaries and living your life wrapped in cotton wool will not turn you into a particularly rounded adult.

For instance anyone who has been to university will know that those who go the most wild and are more likely to have "issues", especially in the first year, are those whose parents have kept them in a state of lockdown during their life up to that point.

Perhaps you need to watch the slightly controversial episode of Brass Eye which dealt with paedophilia and the general public's massive over-reaction whenever anything to do with it is mentioned.

Abersoch is just beautiful. The area surrounding it and the sea and Islands are just fab on a sunny day. Personally I think The Warren is expensive when compared to other caravan parks - because thats what it is - a caravan park. But thats the market! If you've got the spare brass...

She is OK thanks Dave, not been out many times as been busy with life, the world and everything.

Been to Crickieth (how do you spell it!?), around to Porth Dinallen (on the day of the big cruise, but intentionally went much later than they did and came back equally late) plus a few Abersoch based potters so not much at all yet really.

SHould be arounf this weekend, but probably only for Friday Avo and Saturday/Sunday. Was just checking the tides and could pop over to Porthmadog for a Friday afternoon pint but, having driven to your yacht club for a nosey at your new pontoons, not sure where I could tie up any more. Is there anywhere we could go just for an hour or two?

How's the Windy doing? I think you were onthe fuel pump as we headed off to Porth Dinallen at the last bank holiday.
